  • On “Natural” (ΦΥΣΙΚΟΝ) in the Nicomachean Ethics

    Allison Murphy•ARTICLE•Classical Philology•2026

There has been little systematic work done on Aristotle’s use of the term “natural” (φυσικόν) in the Nicomachean Ethics. This study reveals that nearly all instances of the term or its cognates fall within one or both of two groups. In the first, φυσικόν applies to a property or process marked by spontaneity in contrast to a property or process that involves deliberation or demonstration. In the second, what is φυσικόν is regularly linked to some…

  • A qualitative study of end‐stage liver disease and liver transplant referral practices among primary care providers in nonurban America

Open Access•Vashisht V Madabhushi, Vashisht Madabhushi et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Rural Health•2025

PURPOSE: In rural America, the road to obtaining a liver transplant (LTX) often starts at the primary care provider's (PCP's) office. Patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) in rural communities experience lower rates of wait-listing and higher mortality. This study identifies issues related to the knowledge and perceptions of ESLD and LTX referral among PCPs in rural Kentucky (KY). METHODS: The study protocol involved relying upon a semistr…

Pallavi Nishith, Jin Huang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Distress and…•2023

The purpose of this study was to test the self-medication hypothesis of drug use in a sample of homeless persons. A serial mediation model was tested to examine the effects of recent victimization on trauma-related symptom severity, and the effects of trauma-related symptom severity on severity of severe mental illness (SMI) symptoms, and finally the effects of severity of SMI symptoms on illicit drug use. The final sample for the study included …

  • Classical Greek object cases

    Open Access•Allison Murphy, Stanley Dubinsky•ARTICLE•Journal of Greek Linguistics•2023•References: 1

We examine here the distribution of morphological case (e.g., accusative, genitive, and dative) among object complements of monotransitive verbs in Classical Greek ( CG ). Accusative-marked objects are generally deemed to be direct objects ( DO ), while dative- and genitive-marked complements are typically treated as syntactically or semantically separate, sometimes being treated as objects bearing exceptional/semantic/quirky case and sometimes b…
