Sustaining Healthy Communities in rural settings: Lessons from multisectoral teams in Alberta, Canada
The Alberta Healthy Communities Approach (AHCA) supports communities in creating environments that support healthy behaviors and reduce the risk of cancer and chronic disease. In this 4-year project, participating rural communities implemented an iterative five-step process that included establishing multisectoral teams (MSTs) to develop, implement, and evaluate health promotion initiatives aligned with local priorities. Communities received impl…
Participatory evaluation of the Alberta Healthy Communities Approach (Ahca)
Background: The Alberta Healthy Communities Approach (AHCA) project aimed to strengthen supportive environments for cancer and chronic disease prevention in rural communities across Alberta. Approach: The Alberta Healthy Communities Approach (AHCA) is an evidence-based, participatory approach to creating supportive environments for health across key risk factors for cancer and chronic disease (e.g., healthy eating, mental health, UVR protection).…
International Communication of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Popular in the West
With the development of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) acupuncture and moxibustion, research on acupuncture and moxibustion in the Western world is deepening. The concept of acupuncture and moxibustion popular in the West is formed. By investigating the localization of acupuncture and moxibustion in the Western world, this paper introduces several kinds of acupuncture and moxibustion popular in the West and concludes the spread of acupuncture…
Estimations and Tests for Generalized Mediation Models with High-Dimensional Potential Mediators
Motivated by an empirical analysis of stock reaction to COVID-19 pandemic, we propose a generalized mediation model with high-dimensional potential mediators to study the mediation effects of financial metrics that bridge company’s sector and stock value. We propose an estimation procedure for the direct effect via a partial penalized maximum likelihood method and establish its theoretical properties. We develop a Wald test for the indirect effec…
Varying Coefficient Mediation Model and Application to Analysis of Behavioral Economics Data
This paper is concerned with causal mediation analysis with varying indirect and direct effects. We propose a varying coefficient mediation model, which can also be viewed as an extension of moderation analysis on a causal diagram. We develop a new estimation procedure for the direct and indirect effects based on B-splines. Under mild conditions, rates of convergence and asymptotic distributions of the resulting estimates are established. We furt…
How state anxiety influences retrospective time duration judgment: Moderated mediating effect of cognitive appraisal and memory bias
A Delphi Study and Verification of Assessment of Chemistry Experiments Videos / Delfi-metoda istraživanja i verifikacija procjene videozapisa o kemijskim eksperimentima
The purpose of this study was to use the Delphi method to combine consensus opinion to develop indicators for pre-service chemistry teachers to assess videos of chemical experiments. This study had two stages. The first was to construct the Video Assessment Questionnaire using a modified Delphi consensus process delivering three rounds of face-to-face or online surveys. The 50 participants included professors, associate professors, undergraduate …
Sequential Text-Term Selection in Vector Space Models
Text mining has recently attracted a great deal of attention with the accumulation of text documents in all fields. In this article, we focus on the use of textual information to explain continuous variables in the framework of linear regressions. To handle the unstructured texts, one common practice is to structuralize the text documents via vector space models. However, using words or phrases as the basic analysis terms in vector space models i…
How state anxiety influences time perception: Moderated mediating effect of cognitive appraisal and attentional bias
Anxiety is associated with high levels of arousal. Both theoretical and empirical work have determined that when an individual experiences anxiety, he/she shows attentional bias toward negative stimuli. High arousal and negative attentional bias, as the two key characteristics of anxiety, are associated with a series of subjective feelings and experiences of individuals with state anxiety, among which time perception is significant. However, how …
How individuals perceive time in an anxious state: The mediating effect of attentional bias
Three experiments were conducted to investigate the mediating effect of attentional bias on the relationship between state anxiety and time perception. In Experiment 1, state anxiety (high and low) was manipulated by a standardized induction procedure, attentional bias was tested by a dot-probe task, and time perception of words (negative and neutral) was tested by a time reproduction task in which a standard duration of 2 s was used. In Experime…
Functional Mapping of Developmental Processes: Theory, Applications, and Prospects
Functional mapping is a statistical tool for mapping quantitative trait loci (QTLs) that control the developmental pattern and process of a complex trait. Functional mapping has two significant advantages beyond traditional QTL mapping approaches. First, it integrates biological principles of trait formation into the model, enabling the biological interpretation of QTLs detected. Second, functional mapping is based on parsimonious modeling of mea…
