Advanced Practice Occupational Therapy (Apot) Led Integrated Hand and Wrist clinic
Background/Need: This initiative is informed by the work completed over the last five years at St James’s Hospital (SJH) providing a “see and treat” waiting- list initiative for GP referred patients with hand and wrist pathology. Over 700+ patients attended the APOT – led hand and wrist clinic, with 60% discharged without requiring consultant referral. The Effects of Different Smoking Patterns in Pregnancy on Perinatal Outcomes in the Southampton Women’s Survey
Maternal smoking during pregnancy has established associations with poor perinatal outcomes. Among continuing pregnant smokers, harm-reduction strategies have been suggested, including temporary cessation of smoking during pregnancy, also known as partial quitting. Stories of Jack
‘Jihad Jack’ Thomas was arrested in Pakistan in January 2003 under suspicion of being an al-Qaeda supporter or operative. Thomas’s guilt or innocence has been disputed ever since as police, politicians, the courts, the media and the public have grappled with who Jack Thomas is, what he believes and what he has or has not done in the name of those beliefs
Is the Natural Twinning Rate Now Stable?
As contribution to a recent debate (James, 1998; Murphy et al. , 1997, 1998) the proportion of twins following ovulation induction (OI) or assisted conception (AC) in 1994 in Oxfordshire and West Berkshire was estimated, and by extrapolation the natural twinning rate in England and Wales was judged to have maintained a plateau phase since the 1970s. Similar figures for 1995 and 1996 from the same study, and hence a more stable local estimate, are…

James questions the validity of the very tentative statement made in the final sentence of our paper. Our claim concerned the proportion of twins in Britain in the 1990s that might have arisen through subfertility treatment and was linked to the s uggestion that the natural twinning rate might still be in decline. If this were true, we, like James, would regard that prospect with concern.
