Heart Failure Virtual Consult
Introduction: Many challenges remain in the management of heart failure (HF) with suboptimal implementation of guideline-recommended therapies, a changing profile of patients who are older and have multiple comorbidities and a high rate of early re-hospitalization for HF. Use of modern communications systems has the potential to revolutionize primary care-secondary care interactions.Practice change: We have recently deployed a GP-specialist on li…
Lawyers' Intervention at Pretrial Stage Helps to Prevent Torture, Illegal Detention and Other Human Rights Violations
This practice note aims to summarize the proven success of a holistic strategy for the prevention of torture developed by Advocacy Forum–Nepal (AF). Through systematic visits to government detention facilities to monitor the status of detainees, giving detainees (especially those from poor, marginalized backgrounds) access to a lawyer and protecting their rights in detention centres, AF aimed to reduce the widespread torture and other ill-treatme…
PS54 Biomarkers Associated With Mortality In A Community Based Population With Cardiovascular Risk Factors
Background The STOP HF cohort is an ongoing longitudinal study of 1,040 individuals with cardiovascular risk factors and no known ventricular dysfunction at baseline. The study is located in South Dublin and the Southeast of Ireland. This is an analysis of the deaths reported at the interim analysis conducted in January 2012 (mean follow-up, 4 years, range 3.5–7.0 years). Methods Univariable analyses compared the profiles of survivors to those de…
P2-50 GGT levels are a coherent indicator of cardiovascular risk in primary care in both men and women
Introduction Gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) has been re-established as a marker of cardiovascular risk rather than simply an indicator of liver disease. However, there is little data on the associations between GGT and groups with conventional cardiovascular risk factors in the primary care setting. We sought to examine the factors associated with elevated GGT in an Irish primary care population. Methods We explored the baseline data set of the …
P2-49 Subclinical diastolic dysfunction is associated with biomarkers of hepatic function
Introduction This analysis set to investigate the relationship between novel biomarkers of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality with diastolic dysfunction in a primary care cohort at heightened cardiovascular risk. Methods This is a cross-sectional analysis of 616 participants of the STOP HF study with complete echocardiographic data who have established cardiovascular risk factors and no previously known ventricular dysfunction. Data were also…
