Instrumental Variables Estimation With Flexible Distributions
Instrumental variables are often associated with low estimator precision. This article explores efficiency gains that might be achievable using moment conditions that are nonlinear in the disturbances and are based on flexible parametric families for error distributions. We show that these estimators can achieve the semiparametric efficiency bound when the true error distribution is a member of the parametric family. Monte Carlo simulations demon…
Some Generalized Functions for the Size Distribution of Income
The impact of taxes and transfer payments on the distribution of income
Estimating Aggregate Automotive Income Elasticities From the Population Income-Share Elasticity
The conventional approach to estimating the income responsiveness of a product's sales involves collecting data on sales as a function of income and product prices and then estimating a demand model. In many cases, it is very difficult to either collect the required data or reliably estimate the demand model. This article develops an alternative approach toward estimating these income-responsiveness parameters using only the average income of the…

Interdistributional Income Inequality
Incomplete moments are used to characterize income inequality and provide the basis for interdistributional Lorenz curves. Four measures of interdistributional inequality are considered and seen to be related to an interdistributional welfare interpretation. Based upon these measures, there has been a significant secular decline in interdistributional inequality between blacks and whites over the past 30 years
Some Generalized Mixture Distributions with an Application to Unemployment Duration

Trends in Unemployment Duration Data
A method of estimating the distribution of uninterrupted unemploymentspells from aggregate unemployment data is outlined. The methodology does not i mpose constant individual hazard rates and allows for heterogeneity. Characteris tics of the distribution of unemployment spells are then considered including ha zard rates, measures of inequality such as Gini coefficients, and the fraction o f total unemployment associated with S weeks of unemploy-m…
