Ištar in Enūma elîš
On the surface of the text, Ištar is absent from Enūma elîš . She is never mentioned by name, yet there is circumstantial evidence of her presence in three parts of the epic: the enthronement of Kingu, the first elevation of Marduk, and the catasterism of Marduk’s bow. The article is a detailed analysis of these three passages using the techniques of hyleme analysis, among others. Based on these observations, it is here argued that the epic seems…
Das Zylinder-Fragment Nr. 1+6, Gudeas Zylinder X und Ninĝirsus Heldentaten im Gebirge
This paper investigates the Lagash II cylinder fragment Nr. 1+6, whose physical join can be confirmed. A new edition of the joined fragment provides a more comprehensive understanding. Furthermore, the question is raised of whether this fragment might have belonged to the hypothesized Gudea Cylinder X. If this question could be answered in the affirmative, the fragment would point to the existence of a three-partite praise song ( za 3 -mim ) addr…
Although the archaic lists are of the utmost importance, as they mark the beginning of the 3,000-year lexical tradition in ancient Mesopotamia, their function is largely unresolved. This contribution suggests that a key to their understanding can be found in the context of a transforming and expanding writing system that is still rooted in administrative practices. The success of the new bureaucratic notation system leads to an expansion of its a…

Within this framework, it investigates the ideas pertaining to the nature of violence that is communicated through the sequence of events within the poem. The mode chosen to inform the epic’s reader is understood as narrative exemplification , being an equivalent to the demonstration of general principles through representative example…
