  • Açıklamalı Bibliyografya 1984-2024

Open Access•Marek Stachowski, Hilal Oytun Altun•ARTICLE•Journal of Old Turkic Studies•2025

Readers can learn about scientists’ opinion on their publications either through reviews or to the extent mentioned by those who write their biographies. However, learning an author’s thoughts about their own work directly from them is not the same as reading third-party evaluations. For this reason, Marek Stachowski's work—unprecedented in its kind—offers a meaningful contribution to the history of science: the author presents a comprehensive bi…

  • Eski Türkçede qod- ve qud- Fiilleri

Open Access•Erdem Uçar, Marek Stachowski•ARTICLE•Journal of Old Turkic Studies•2025

The article examines the phonetic and etymological aspects of the Old Turkic verbs qod- and qud- to determine whether they represent two distinct lexical items or phonetic variations of a single verb root. By analysing Old Turkic inscriptions in different writing systems, including Turkic Runic, Brāhmī, Manichaean and Uighur scripts, the research explores how the vowel change o ~ u is recorded in historical sources. It takes a comparative approac…

  • Slavic languages in contact, 9

    Marek Stachowski•ARTICLE•Rocznik Slawistyczny•2023

Evliya Çelebi’s Seyāḥatnāme, i.e. "Book of Travels", contains, among others, a handful of Slavic words that are marked as Ukrainian. As a matter of fact, some of them display mixed features, probably resulting from the contamination of Ukrainian and Russian variants. Such hybrid words (e.g., [9]) are attested together with purely Ukrainian (e.g., [2]) and purely Russian (e.g., [18]) forms. This situation prompted this author to classify Evliya Çe…

  • Materiały do słownika porównawczego zapożyczeń słowiańskich w dialektach tureckich Bałkanów na przykładzie zachodniej Bułgarii

    Marek Stachowski•ARTICLE•Rocznik Slawistyczny•2022

Generally only one aspect of Slavic‐Turkish language contact has regularly been discussed in linguistics, viz. the Turkish influence on Slavic vocabulary. Results of impact in the opposite direction, i.e. Slavic loanwords in Turkish are only sporadically the subject of linguistic investigation. The present paper brings a collection of Slavic words in two Turkish dialects in western Bulgaria. Even this modest set of words clearly shows differences…

  • Rzut oka na wpływy słowiańskie w języku tureckim

    Marek Stachowski•ARTICLE•Rocznik Slawistyczny•2021

Slavic‐Turkish linguistic relations are generally only discussed unilaterally, focusing on the Turkish influence on Slavic and neglecting the opposite direction. Thus far, no more than two relatively extensive essays (the larger one counting 44 pages) have been devoted to Slavic loanwords in Turkish. The present paper aims to outline the state of research on this topic. It begins with a comparison of the two essays, then it examines several of so…

  • Slavic languages in contact, 5

    Marek Stachowski•ARTICLE•Rocznik Slawistyczny•2020

The paper discusses some changes of a and e, as observed in Turkish loanwords in Macedonian, which enables us to see how important these words are also for Turkish historical dialectology. In the final part of the study, a lexicographical suggestion is made: What we really need is a comparative (and, if possible, a historical) dictionary of Turkish loanwords in the Macedonian language area. Without it, we will never be in a position to establish …

    Marek Stachowski•ARTICLE•Rocznik Slawistyczny•2020

This paper is a first study allo ing for Turkological point of vie and striving to sho that there still are many doubts about the Proto-Turkic influence on Proto-Slavic

  • Turkic Pronouns against a Uralic Background

    Marek Stachowski•EDITOR•ARTICLE•Iran and the Caucasus•2015

Although nobody doubts today that a Ural-Altaic protolanguage is an obsolete idea there still exists some peculiar conformity between Uralic and Altaic that cannot easily be explained by simple borrowings. In this article some similarities between Turkic and Uralic pronouns are to the fore

  • Garść etymologii orientalnych w historii języka ukraińskiego

    Marek Stachowski•ARTICLE•Studia Slavica Academiae…•2008

Authors of previous studies concerning the Oriental (mostly, Turkish and Tatar) influence upon the Ukrainian language in the majority of cases focused on the presentation of Ukrainian word histories. The Oriental etymon as well as conduits of transmission were all too often almost neglected. However, a good etymological dictionary should be a common production of Slavicists and Orientalists. The present article shows some etymologies in which the…
