Abby M. Colby: The Christian Response to a Sexist Society
THE author of this epigraph, Abby Colby, was a Congregational missionary in Meiji Japan, from 1879 until her death in 1917. An outspoken woman, she was incensed by the treatment of women, not only Japanese, but Americans as well.
