  • Beyond Material Circuits and Formal Imprints

    Open Access•Neus Rotger, Marta Puxan‐Oliva•ARTICLE•Literature Compass•2026•References: 4

This article is an introduction to the special issue ‘Critical Responses to the Global‐Novel Debate: Bridging Material Objects and Forms’. It looks critically at the global novel debate and proposes to understand the novelistic interests for representing a global imagination from a different angle. Scholarship on the global novel debate has been mostly divided between formal and sociological approaches and has taken a dominant Anglophone perspect…

  • Narrating Loneliness

    Open Access•Neus Rotger•ARTICLE•Journal of Medical Humanities•2025

This article focuses on the ways in which narrative accounts of loneliness in literature problematize current definitions of this important and yet underexplored determinant of health. I argue that the prevailing conceptualization of loneliness in health research, with a general emphasis on social prescribing, obscures other dimensions of loneliness beyond social connectedness that also need to be accounted for in its definition. Drawing on narra…

  • Global Literary Studies Through Concepts

    Open Access•Diana Roig-Sanz, Neus Rotger•CHAPTER•Global Literary Studies•2022

This book aims to contribute to the field of global literary studies with a more inclusive and decentralising approach. Specifically, it responds to a double demand: the need for expanding openness to other ways of…

  • The Novel as Theory of History

  • Introduction

    Open Access•Neus Rotger, Diana Roig-Sanz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Global History•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 15

The interdisciplinary analysis of historical and contemporary global issues with increasingly productive flows of theories, concepts, methods, and practices is a principal goal in global studies. However, within the humanities and the social sciences, the idea of the 'global' is often restrained by disciplinary boundaries, with scant dialogue and transference between them. The present special issue addresses this fundamental gap by historicizing …
