  • A hoard from the period of the Mongol invasion, discovered in the Abaújvár fort

Open Access•Gábor Bakos, Enikő Sipos et al.•ARTICLE•Hungarian Archaeology•2020

Research into archaeological traces of the Mongol Invasion has long discovered that hoards consisting of coins, jewellery and other valuables come to light in various parts of the country, and the coins they contain connect these findings to the 1241–1242 attack. In other places, iron objects, predominantly agricultural tools were hidden, and these are usually discovered by accident and not by planned archaeological excavations. This is why the f…

Scientific socialism as developed by the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), the world's largest workers' party, and the Second International, basically a creation of German socialists, viewed utopianism as empirically unverifiable. The publication, wide circulation, and enormous success in Germany of Edward Bellamy's Looking Backward therefore posed a strong challenge to the leaders of the SPD, Karl Kautsky and August Bebel, and it attract…

A Rudolph, Norhashimah Hassan et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2011

Introduction The oestrogen receptor β (ERβ) is the primarily expressed ER in the large intestine and has been found to have inhibitory effects on colon cancer cells. We therefore investigated, whether the ERβ expression in tumour tissue from colorectal cancer (CRC) patients is associated with tumour/clinical characteristics. Methods We used tissue micro arrays consisting of paired normal and tumorous tissue samples from 1262 CRC cases of a German…

This article examines the staging of sexuality and femininity in Japan Pop (J-Pop) and its related club-cultural scenes. While historical research on many aspects of gender in Japan has been extensive, the relationship between popular music culture, gender, and urban space has been given little recognition. Based on extensive field research in Japan, the article provides an analysis of not only how present-day female stars, Ayumi Hamasaki, Shina …

  • Utopianism as Americanism

    Open Access•Csaba Toth, Carl J Guarneri et al.•ARTICLE•American Quarterly•1993

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE YEAR 2000, EDWARD BELLAMY (1850-1898) ENvisioned an American society structured around an industrial army. Essentially a self-governing, national workers' collective and part of a worldwide social transformation, the industrial army would guarantee its members a general education, employment according to their best abilities, and retirement at the age of forty-five to enjoy leisure and to partake in a culture where high and l…
