  • Dengue occurrence relations and serology

    Open Access•Elizabeth Nava-Aguilera, Arcadio Morales-Pérez et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

The evidence from the baseline survey provided important support for the design and implementation of the trial intervention. The weakness of community leadership and the relatively low rates of self-reported dengue illness were challenges that the Mexican intervention team had to overcome. The higher dengue illness occurrence among women in Costa Grande and Costa Chica may help explain why women participated more than men in activities during th…

  • Aedes aegypti breeding ecology in Guerrero

    Open Access•Arcadio Morales-Pérez, Elizabeth Nava-Aguilera et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

Concrete tanks and barrels accounted for the majority of pupal productivity. Covering water containers could be an effective means of Ae. aegypti vector control, with a bigger effect than using temephos. These findings were useful in planning and implementing the Camino Verde trial intervention in Mexico

  • Coverage and beliefs about temephos application for control of dengue vectors and impact of a community-based prevention intervention

  • Where we put little fish in the water there are no mosquitoes

    Open Access•Arcadio Morales-Pérez, Elizabeth Nava-Aguilera et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

Our study suggests that fish in water containers may reduce the risk of dengue virus infection and dengue illness. This could be a useful part of interventions to control the Aedes aegypti vector

  • Breast-feeding in a complex emergency

    Open Access•Neil Andersson, Sergio Paredes‐solí et al.•ARTICLE•Public Health Nutrition•2010

Objective To examine changes in breast-feeding and impacts on child health during the Bosnian conflict. Design Four linked representative cross-sectional household surveys, 1994 to 1997. Setting The countries of former Yugoslavia largely missed the international wave of enthusiasm for breast-feeding of the 1980s and early 1990s. The concern is that breast-feeding deteriorates during humanitarian emergencies, when children need it most. Subjects T…

  • Childhood malnutrition during the Bosnian conflict

Neil Andersson, José Legorreta-Soberanis et al.•ARTICLE•Vulnerable Children and Youth…•2010•References: 2

In the first years of the Bosnia conflict (1992–1995), a number of small local studies failed to confirm the expected widespread malnutrition that was the basis of humanitarian appeals. At the request of relief agencies, four population surveys from 1994 to 1997 measured childhood malnutrition during and immediately after the conflict as well as potential risk factors. The four surveys visited a random sample of clusters from population registers…

  • Dispareunia en mujeres después del parto

    Open Access•Elvia Solana-Arellano, Ascencio Villegas-Arrizón et al.•ARTICLE•Revista Panamericana de Salud…•2008

Dyspareunia was related to complications with episiotomy and its possible sequelae, such as infection, episiorrhaphy dehiscence, and constricted introitus. More attention should be given to the episiotomy site during the postpartum period and greater selectivity is needed when deciding which women require an episiotomy
