This paper examines the role of the approaching millennium of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus′ (1988) in the struggle to legalize the clandestine Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in the USSR. This article analyzes the significance of the place in Kyiv where the statue of Lenin stood before it was toppled during the Euromaidan protests. Following the monument’s demolition, many works of art have been successively exhibited on this site. The essay argues that anti-politics, a category borrowed from the anti-communist movement in the Eastern Bloc, can inspire memory studies. We focus on one of the chosen categories – the parallel polis (with some forays into the matter of the nonviolence movement).
