O presente artigo buscou organizar a passagem de Abdias do Nascimento por congressos pan-africanistas entre os anos de 1973 e 1982, a partir do método biográfico, a fim de alcançar as contribuições do autor às ciências sociais para temas tradicionais do pensamento social brasileiro. Conclui-se que suas principais contribuições são uma nova compreensão do racismo, da chamada democracia racial e da articulação histórica de movimentos sociais negros
