Vegetation dynamics offset nearly 30% of precipitation’s impact on runoff and are amplified by aridity
Impact of Industry and Education Integration on Employment Quality in Higher Vocational Colleges: Moderating Role of Faculty Qualifications and Curriculum Development Capacity
The integration of industry and education serves as a critical pathway for improving the quality of talent training in higher vocational colleges and achieving high-quality employment for graduates. This study employs linear regression and moderating effect models to examine the impact of industry–education integration on employment quality in higher vocational institutions, using data from the 2024 Vocational Education Quality Annual Report from…

Spatio-Temporal Development of Vegetation Carbon Sinks and Sources in the Arid Region of Northwest China
Drylands, which account for 41% of Earth's land surface and are home to more than two billion people, play an important role in the global carbon balance. This study analyzes the spatio-temporal patterns of vegetation carbon sinks and sources in the arid region of northwest China (NWC), using the net ecosystem production (NEP) through the Carnegie-Ames-Stanford approach (CASA). It quantitatively evaluates regional ecological security over a 20-ye…
Drylands face potential threat of robust drought in the CMIP6 SSPs scenarios
In an increasingly globalized and warming world, drought can have devastating impacts on regional agriculture, water resources, and the ecological environment. Reliable prediction of future drought changes is especially important within the context of rapid warming. However, the extent and future trends of drought changes are variable and incomplete in the CMIP6 forcing scenarios. Based on the CMIP6 data, we chose the standardized precipitation-e…
Evaluation and projection of snowfall changes in High Mountain Asia based on Nasa’s NEX-GDDP high-resolution daily downscaled dataset
High Mountain Asia (HMA), which includes the Tibetan Plateau, Tienshan Mountains and surrounding region, has abundant snowfall and a long period of snow cover annually. The headwaters of many prominent Asian rivers depend in part on HMA meltwater. In this study, we evaluate projected changes in mean snowfall (Smean), snowfall days (Sd), and snowfall fraction (Sf) for the years 2070–2099 relative to 1976–2005, under the Representative Concentratio…
Does elevation dependent warming exist in high mountain Asia
A majority of studies suggest that elevation dependent warming (EDW) has been verified in mountainous areas. However, there is some controversy about the EDW of high mountain Asia (HMA). Based on the analysis of the data from 128 meteorological stations in the entire region for 1961–2017, we found that there was no EDW in HMA on the time scale of 1961–2017 and the spatial scale of the altitude of 3500–5000 m. The EDW in HMA is the most obvious du…
Study on the utilization efficiency of land and water resources in the Aral Sea Basin, Central Asia
This paper analyzes and calculates the utilization and efficiency of land and water resources in the Aral Sea Basin (ASB) from 2000 to 2014, using MODIS remote sensing data and the Water Use Efficiency Monitor in Central Asia (WUEMoCA) database. The results show that: (1) Over the past 15 years, the water area in ASB has decreased at a rate of 1048 km2 per year, from a proportion of 2.5% in 2000 to 1.5% in 2014. The Aral Sea in particular has wit…

Response of glacial-lake outburst floods to climate change in the Yarkant River basin on northern slope of Karakoram Mountains, China
Impact of population growth and land-use change on water resources and ecosystems of the arid Tarim River Basin in Western China
Time series data on population change, economic development, climate change, water volume and quality and oasis land-use change were collected to study the interactions between these factors in the arid Tarim River Basin, China. The study reveals that precipitation and stream flow in headwater streams increased, but stream flow in the main Tarim River had reduced significantly over the past three decades. This implies that human activity, rather …
