A teleconnection pathway linking cross-basin extremes triggered the record-breaking 2024 marine heatwave in the East China Seas
In 2024, a record-breaking marine heatwave (MHW) occurred in the East China Seas (ECSs), lasting four months and featuring consecutive 21 d periods exceeding the extreme heatwave threshold. Based on a mixed–layer heat budget analysis, this study identifies the dominant contribution of increased shortwave radiation, which is closely linked to atmospheric high–pressure anomalies. These high-pressure anomalies were established via a teleconnection p…
Heat transport into the interior ocean induced by water-mass subduction
The subduction of oceanic water masses provides a crucial pathway for anthropogenic heat to enter the subsurface ocean, thereby shaping deep-reaching warming signatures. Analyzing data from eight ocean and atmosphere reanalysis datasets, we show that the average annual subduction rate of the global ocean (excluding 10° S–10° N) is 312.4 ± 27.9 Sv, resulting in a mean heat transport of 20.2 ± 2.1 PW towards the subsurface ocean. This subduction-dr…
Seasonality of the intraseasonal variability in the upper equatorial western Pacific Ocean currents
Quantifying spatiotemporal characteristics of intraseasonal variability (ISV) of upper ocean (100 m) zonal currents ( U ) in the equatorial western Pacific remains difficult due to a lack of direct observations. Here we investigate the characteristics by analyzing five subsurface mooring data at 140°–142° E, 1.7° S–4.7° N, from January 2014 to April 2021. Our analysis revealed that U ISV has an amplitude exceeding 40 cm s −1 , comparable to their…
The role of eddy-wind interaction in the eddy kinetic energy budget of the Agulhas retroflection region
The Agulhas retroflection (AR) region possesses the highest eddy kinetic energy (EKE) level in the Indian Ocean. However, mechanisms regulating EKE of the AR remain uncertain. Here, by analyzing an eddy-resolving coupled model simulation with improved EKE representation, we show that the upper-ocean EKE of the AR is mainly generated through barotropic instability in its upstream and leakage zones and is by nonlocal transport in its downstream zon…
The Mediation Role of Safety Attitude in the Impact of Resilience on the Safety Behavior of Coal Miners in China
Resilience can improve the adaptability of coal miners to high-hazard and high-stress environments. After facing setbacks or adversities, resilience can enable coal miners to recover from bad mental states and have an optimistic safety attitude and positive safety behaviors. However, how resilience affects safety behavior and the role of safety attitude in the relationship have not been clear. This study systematically reviewed previous research …
Development of A Safety Climate Scale for Geological Prospecting Projects in China
The geological prospecting industry has developed rapidly in China over the past few years. It has made outstanding contributions to the discovery of new mineral resources, new energy sources, and the excavation and utilization of resources. However, geological prospecting projects do not have effective safety management measures at present. Moreover, the geological prospecting project has its own traits and features that differ from other indust…
Development of Construction Workers Job Stress Scale to Study and the Relationship between Job Stress and Safety Behavior
Job stress is considered one of the critical causes of construction workers' unsafe behaviors. As a mainstay industry in many countries, the construction industry has a considerable number of employees and the research on how job stress affects workers' unsafe behaviors has important theoretical and practical significance to improve construction safety performance through better job stress management. In this study, the authors thoroughly reviewe…
