Seasonal-Spatial Distribution and Long-Term Variation of Transparency in Xin’anjiang Reservoir: Implications for Reservoir Management
Water transparency is a useful indicator of water quality or productivity and is widely used to detect long-term changes in the water quality and eutrophication of lake ecosystems. Based on short-term spatial observations in the spring, summer, and winter and on long-term site-specific observation from 1988 to 2013, the spatial, seasonal, long-term variations, and the factors affecting transparency are presented for Xin'anjiang Reservoir (China).…
Chinese coastal seas are facing heavy atmospheric nitrogen deposition
As the amount of reactive nitrogen (N) generated and emitted increases the amount of N deposition and its contribution to eutrophication or harmful algal blooms in the coastal zones are becoming issues of environmental concern. To quantify N deposition in coastal seas of China we selected six typical coastal sites from North to South in 2011. Concentrations of NH _3 , HNO _3 , NO _2 , particulate NH _4 ^+ (pNH _4 ^+ ) and pNO _3 ^− ranged from 1.…
An improved analytical algorithm for remote estimation of chlorophyll-a in highly turbid waters
An analytical three-band algorithm for spectrally estimating chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) has been proposed recently and the model does not need to be trained. However, the model did not consider the effects of the absorption due to colored detritus matter (CDM) and backscattering of the water column, resulting in an overestimation when Chl-a < 50 mg m − 3 and an underestimation when Chl-a ≥ 50 mg m − 3. In this letter, an improved three-band algorithm …
