  • Strontium Isotope Analysis at an 18th Century Burial Ground in Semonice (Czech Republic) – the Use of Modern Skeletal Remains and its Narrative and Interpretative Value

Open Access•Miriam Nývltová Fišáková, Pavel Drnovský et al.•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinaria Archaeologica…•2024

The paper is devoted to the application of strontium isotope analysis to investigate samples from an 18th century burial ground in Semonice, northeastern Bohemia. The circumstances of the burial ground’s origins as well as the origins of the deceased could not unambiguously be determined with the help of archaeological and anthropological methods. However, the results of isotope analysis helped to answer both questions. When these are supplemente…

The results of magnetometer measurements carried out in small-sized fortifications of the High Middle Ages are presented. In most cases these fortifications were partly or completely abandoned sites. At all sites, structures of anthropogenic origin were discovered. Thanks to the survey various components of residences were identified: internal buildings, fortifications, moats, ramparts. The survey method chosen proved to be suitable for detecting…

  • High Medieval Fortifications in Villages near Hradec Králové

    Open Access•Pavel Drnovský•ARTICLE•Fasciculi Archaeologiae Historicae•2022

This study discusses high medieval fortifications located in villages in the central part of East Bohemia. A typical feature of this area was its division into small aristocratic demesnes and, consequently, the existence of many fortified manor houses, the residences of lower nobility. This paper summarises the results of a non-destructive survey, detailing the appearance, connection to the existing settlement network, and relationship to the sur…

The study addresses the issue of multiple burials in the Early Modern period based on the example of the excavation of the burial ground near Jaroměř–Semonice (east Bohemia, Czech Republic). The rescue excavation of the site was conducted in 2017–2019. A group of 33 grave pits were set in an atypical position outside the regular cemetery, though in the vicinity of the niche chapel. A total of 66 individuals were buried here, with some some of the…

V destrukci převažují komorové a nádobkové kachle běžné tvarové škály. Početně výrazně jsou zastoupeny i jiné kamnové konstrukční prvky, ponejvíce desky několika tvarových a metrických formátů. Soubor keramických desek …
