    Open Access•Primrose Nakazibwe, Wim Pelupessy•ARTICLE•Journal of World-Systems Research•2014•Cited by: 2•References: 18

Commodity or value chains are the dominant means to channel agro-food products from cultivators to consumers. Direct open markets are either non-existent or insignificant . These chains are also the main mechanisms for integrating underprivileged groups into the world economy. Why do global value chains generate sorrow for many and joy for a few, and why are these outcomes heavily gender biased? To look for answers this article critically reviews…

  • World City Networks and Global Commodity Chains: Towards a World-Systems' Integration

    Open Access•Edward Brown, Ed Brown et al.•ARTICLE•Global Networks•2010•Cited by: 28•References: 46

There are two literatures that explicitly describe the spaces of flows that constitute contemporary globalization - World City Network analysis and Global Commodity Chain analysis. We explore the possibilities of their integration by returning to their common origins in world-systems analysis. Each model is described and critiqued and it is argued that each can be used to address some of the other's limitations. This is illustrated through world …

    Wim Pelupessy•ARTICLE•Études rurales•2007•References: 18

    Open Access•Wim Pelupessy, John F Uggen•ARTICLE•Latin American Perspectives•1991•Cited by: 1•References: 1

In the preceding two chapters we have discussed the three main sectoral interventions of the government in the new strategy of the 1980s. The analysis of the results of the reforms already indicates some contradictory effects of the implemented macroeconomic policies. In other cases these measures strengthened the sectoral ones, but not in a systematic way. The following citation from a very authoritative spokesman is revealing in this context: “…

En el presente estudio se exploran las principales tendencias de la reforma agraria a partir de los efectos directos en el campo, en su impacto en los principales sectores agroexportadores y en la posición de las…
