  • Quality of life, mental health and social relationships among older adults participating in the Recreovía physical activity community program

    Open Access•Nicolle Wagner-Gutiérrez, Silvia A González et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal for Equity…•2025

Community-based physical activity programs like Recreovía enhance older adults' social engagement, foster intergenerational relationships, reduce social isolation, and promote healthy aging. Outdoor spaces that support physical activity and socialization are vital for maintaining independence, mental health, and quality of life. These programs also help older adults sustain relationships and contribute meaningfully to society, promoting a more eq…

  • Selection homophily and peer influence for adolescents’ smoking and vaping norms and outcomes in high and middle-income settings

Open Access•Jennifer Murray, Sharon Sánchez-Franco et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2023

The MECHANISMS study investigates how social norms for adolescent smoking and vaping are transmitted through school friendship networks, and is the first study to use behavioral economics methodology to assess smoking-related social norms. Here, we investigate the effects of selection homophily (the tendency to form friendships with similar peers) and peer influence (a social process whereby an individual’s behavior or attitudes are affected by p…

Open Access•Christopher Tate, Rajnish Kumar et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

By using a comparative approach we demonstrate that smoking interventions and policies must be sensitive to the cultural and normative context within which they are implemented

  • Conceptual Debates on Poverty Measurement

    Open Access•Monica Pinilla-Roncancio, Amy E Ritterbusch et al.•ARTICLE•Child Indicators Research•2021•References: 14

  • Mechanisms Study

Open Access•Ruth F Hunter, Felipe Montes et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2020

This proof of concept study harnesses novel transdisciplinary insights to contrast two school-based smoking prevention interventions among adolescents in the UK and Colombia. We compare schools in these locations because smoking rates and norms are different, in order to better understand social norms based mechanisms of action related to smoking. We aim to: 1) improve the measurement of social norms for smoking behaviors in adolescents and revea…

  • Adolescent Tobacco Exposure in 31 Latin American Cities before and after the Framework Convention for Tobacco Control

    Open Access•Francisco-Javier Prado-Galbarro, Amy H Auchinclo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Our objective was to describe the prevalence and changes in tobacco use and tobacco control policies in Latin American countries and cities before and after ratification of the 2003 Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Country-level tobacco policy data came from reports on the global tobacco epidemic (World Health Organization, 2007-2014). Global Youth Tobacco Survey data, 2000-2011, came from six countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, C…
