Trichotillomania is an intriguing psychosomatic entity in which there is an irresistible desire to pull out the hair from the scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows and other parts of the body. The process results in an instant release of tension, a sense of relief and security. However, non-scaring alopecia is its clinical presentation. The development of trichobezoar following ingestion of the pulled hair is its salient complication in a few cases. Subsequ…

Life and death in the Templo Mayor
In 1978, workmen in downtown Mexico City accidentally discovered a beautifully preserved monolithic sculpture at the foot of the main temple of the Aztecs. This important find led to a massive excavation that continues today under the direction of archaeologist Eduardo Matos Moctezuma. The great temple, now known as the Templo Mayor of Tenochtitlan symbolized the axis mundi, the Aztec center of the world, where the sky, the earth, and underworld …
Teotihuacan: Art from the City of the Gods
Fifteen hundred years ago, Teotihuacan was one of the world's greatest cities. Some 200,000 people lived in this Mexican metropolis, with its massive public buildings, grid plan of streets and imposing murals and sculpture. Its trading empire dominated much of ancient Mexico. Then, in the 8th century, came a mysterious collapse. Even knowledge of the original name was lost: Teotihuacan, City of the Gods, was a title bestowed by the Aztecs six hun…
