    For many scholars it is an accepted fact that during the first half of the 18th century the Iroquois adopted a neutral stance between the French and English and that this policy permitted the Iroquois to remain one of the most powerful Indian confederations in North America until the American Revolution. This paper traces the changes in Iroquois neutrality from 1701 to 1754 and argues that that policy was more aggressive and less successful than …
