We examine the effects of governments' use of alternative service provision on public employment using panel data from a nationally representative sample of local governments. We model the effects of alternative service provision on the size of the public workforce and hypothesize that alternative provision jointly impacts both full‐ and part‐time employment. When competition is naturally limited, policymakers craft regulation to obtain effects similar to those that would have occurred in the presence of competition. Influence of a "Discharge Interview" on Patient Knowledge, Compliance, and Functional Status After Hospitalization
Physicians commonly assume that they can educate hospitalized patients to follow prescribed treatment plans after discharge.
