  • External effective dose from natural radiation for the Umbria region (Italy)

Open Access•Kassandra Giulia Cristina Raptis, Matteo Albéri et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2022

This study presents the map of the external effective annual dose rate (1:200,000 scale) due to terrestrial and cosmic radiation. The terrestrial dose is assessed via gamma ray spectroscopy combining radiometric data from airborne surveys and laboratory measurements. The geostatistical method Collocated CoKriging is used for the spatial interpolation of the sparse gamma ray data, adopting a high-resolution geological map as ancillary information.…

  • Total natural radioactivity, Veneto (Italy)

Open Access•Virginia Strati, Marica Baldoncini et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2015

We present the first detailed map of the terrestrial natural radioactivity of the Veneto Region (Italy), a 18,264 km2 densely populated area, previously investigated through indoor radon surveys. The activity concentration in 709 representative samples of the main Alpine lithostratigraphic units was measured by using a high-purity germanium (HPGe) γ-ray spectrometer to characterize the radioactivity content of the 41 cartographic units of the Ven…

  • Total natural radioactivity, Tuscany, Italy

Open Access•Ivan Callegari, Gian Pietro Bezzon et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2013

In this paper, we report an extensive survey of the natural radioactive content of rocks of the Tuscany Region (Italy): this permitted the first total natural radioactivity map of the region. The sampling was planned using the geological map of Tuscany at scale 1:250,000, which contains 45 distinct geological groups recognized by tectonic and stratigraphic features. Each geological group was characterized for the total activity by measuring the a…

  • Application of the OhmMapper resistivity-meter to detect the theatre of Sentinum Roman town by using 3D resistivity model

Open Access•Marta Caterina Bottacchi, Tommaso Colonna et al.•ARTICLE•ArchéoSciences•2009•References: 2

Introduction The application of geophysical methods to investigate the near-surface soil layers containing anthropic products has been recognized as an important element of archaeological research by the international community (Clark, 1996). Geophysics can delineate quickly the presence of archaeological structures without invasive stratigraphic excavation. In particular, resistivity surveying can be used to understand the geometry and depth of …
