This quarter-plate daguerreotype was in all likelihood made in New York in 1848 by Abraham Bogardus (1822–1908). It was recently discovered in Redlands, California, and the original owner, Mrs Cornelia Frick of Yucaipa, identified the subject as her grandfather, Robert Bruce Pierce, then seventeen.
