Dynamic assessment of material living conditions across europe
This study proposes the use of the Window Slack-Based Measure Data Envelopment Analysis model to create a composite index for evaluating material living conditions (MLCs). Findings reveal that reducing poverty has a greater effect on MLCs for women compared to men. The necessary poverty reduction increased between 2010 and 2012 and decreased between 2014 and 2016 for both genders. The adjustment for overcrowded housing showed no gender difference…
Analysing the Influence of Green Marketing Communication in Consumers’ Green Purchase Behaviour
This study aims to explore whether consumers' attention to companies' green marketing communication influences their green purchase behaviour. It also analyses the importance of consumers' characteristics, namely gender, education, and green attitudes, in their attention to companies' green marketing communication. An online survey was carried out on the population residing in Portugal over 18 years of age, allowing us to collect 690 valid respon…
Using the theory of planned behavior to understand the students’ pro-environmental behavior
Purpose Through the application of the theory of planned behavior (TPB), this study aims to explore the main determinants of higher education students’ pro-environmental behavior. Design/methodology/approach An online survey was conducted among the students of a public higher education institution (HEI) in Portugal, from March to May of 2020. The data were analyzed with the structural equation modeling technique, considering environmental attitud…
Environmental Impact Assessment in the Former Mining Area of Regoufe (Arouca, Portugal)
The W-Sn Regoufe mine, closed since the 1970s, was once intensively exploited for tungsten concentrates. Throughout its activity, considerable amounts of arsenopyrite-rich mine wastes were produced and, to this day, are still exposed to weathering conditions. Thus, this work aims at assessing soil contamination, using a combination of chemical, physicochemical and mineralogical analyses and sequential selective chemical extraction of the main pot…
Explaining the Social Acceptance of Renewables through Location-Related Factors
The public perception of renewable energy sources is generally positive, due to their role in air pollution and CO 2 emission mitigation policies. However, there are local environmental detrimental effects, and empirical evidence is not consistent as to the support of local communities. In the present paper, we analyse the antecedents of public generic perceptions of renewables grounded on objective location-related factors. Personal location-rel…
