One of the ways in which the police can be held accountable for their actions is through an effective system for handling police complaints and misconduct cases. This paper presents the experiences of teaching political geography, in a level 2 BA course, with the use of an innovative assignment – the letters to newspapers assignment. We provide here the aims, rationale and a detailed outline of the assignment. We also discuss student feedback from 67 questionnaires and 2 focus groups. The action-project method was used to explore similarities and differences in the goals and activities of mothers and sons, and mothers and daughters, working together to facilitate a successful future transition to adulthood.
