Extracts of Coriaria nepalensis ameliorate MK-801-induced schizophrenia-like behaviors via regulation of neurotransmitter imbalance and neuroinflammation
The relationship between workplace bullying and adaptive performance in junior nurses
Background: Amidst the rapidly evolving global healthcare environment, junior nurses must develop greater adaptability. However, issues such as workplace bullying significantly undermine their adaptive performance. Guided by the Job Demands-Resources Theory and Emotion Regulation Theory, this study examines the chain-mediating role of cognitive reappraisal, expressive suppression, and work engagement in the relationship between workplace bullying…

Social Observation Mitigates the Negative Impact of Money Priming on Green Consumption
Money plays an important role in consumer decisions, yet its impact on green consumption has been studied primarily through attitudinal measures, with less attention to actual behaviour, and the moderating role of social observation remains unclear. To address this gap, this research investigates the effects of money priming and social observation on green consumption behaviour. In Experiment 1, participants first completed a scrambled-sentence t…
Large-scale school scoliosis screening in a multi-ethnic, high-altitude region of southwestern China
Objectives To establish the first large-scale epidemiological profile of scoliosis among children and adolescents in Yunnan, China, and identify key demographic, anthropometric, and geographic determinants in this multi-ethnic, high-altitude region. Study design A population-based cross-sectional screening survey using multistage stratified cluster sampling. Methods A population-based cross-sectional survey of 69,811 students aged 6–18 was conduc…
Knowledge, attitudes, and practices of hand eczema patients in Guangdong, China
Background Hand eczema is a common, debilitating condition affecting quality of life. This study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of patients with hand eczema in Guangdong, China, toward their condition. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted at our hospital from September 21, 2023, to July 31, 2024, using a self-designed KAP questionnaire. Association between music use and depression among college students
Music is a prevalent tool for alleviating depression among college students, yet its effects exhibit individual and gender variability. This study examined differential associations between healthy/unhealthy music use and depression severity among Chinese college students while investigating regulatory emotional self-efficacy (RESE) as a moderator and exploring three-way interactions with gender. Utilizing a cross-sectional design, we recruited 1…

Reported human infections of H9N2 avian influenza virus in China in 2021
Introduction: The continued emergence of human infections of H9N2 avian influenza virus (AIV) poses a serious threat to public health. The prevalent Y280/G9 lineage of H9N2 AIV in Chinese poultry can directly bind to human receptors, increasing the risk of spillover infections to humans. Since 2013, the number of human cases of H9N2 avian influenza has been increasing continuously, and in 2021, China reported the highest number of human cases, at…
Breast cancer and breast cancer screening use—beliefs and behaviours in a nationwide study in Malaysia
Public health strategies or behaviour interventions targeting negative beliefs about BC screening among Malaysian women may increase uptake and reduce late presentation and advanced-stage cancer. Insights from the study suggest that women under 50 years, in the lower income group without a car or motorcycle ownership, and of Malay or Indian ethnicity (compared to Chinese-Malay) are more likely to hold beliefs inhibiting BC screening
Influence of Environmental Aesthetic Value and Anticipated Emotion on Pro-Environmental Behavior
Perceptual cues act as signals in the aesthetic value environment, which promote emotion regulation toward pro-environment behavior. This type of perception-emotion-behavior reactivity forms the core of human altruism. However, differences in pro-environmental behavior may result from variation across high-aesthetic-value (HAV) and low-aesthetic-value (LAV) environments. This study investigated the neural mechanisms underlying interaction effects…
Green Product Types Modulate Green Consumption in the Gain and Loss Framings
People show a separation of intention and behavior in green consumption, and promoting actual green purchase behavior is more important than purchase intention. This study adopted a conflicting environmental decision paradigm to investigate behavioral and neural processes during actual green consumption decision-making involving different types of green products and message framing, according to construal level theory. Participants were instructe…
Effect of socioeconomic status on the physical and mental health of the elderly
The SES of the elderly including relatively large income gap, different education levels and occupational categories could indeed have a significant effect on health status of the elderly, and the reason why this effect existed could be partly explained by the mediation effect of social participation. Policymakers should pay more attention to the social participation of the elderly
Breast Cancer Screening in Semi-Rural Malaysia
Breast cancer (BC) is the commonest cancer in Malaysia. Delayed diagnosis is a significant cause of BC mortality in the country. Early diagnosis and screening are vital strategies in mortality reduction. This study assessed the level of utilisation and barriers for breast self-examination (BSE), clinical breast examination (CBE) and mammogram in a semi-rural population in Malaysia and compared these across the different ethnic groups. This cross-…
Comparative Analysis of Early-Stage Clinical Features Between Covid-19 and Influenza A H1N1 Virus Pneumonia
Introduction: Influenza virus pneumonia and COVID-19 are two different types of respiratory viral pneumonia but with very similar clinical manifestations. The aim of the present study was to help clinicians gain a better understanding about differences between Influenza virus pneumonia and COVID-19 by comparative analysis of the early-stage clinical features. Methods: Clinical data of patients with confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 and influenza A …
Effect of Social Participation on the Physical Functioning and Depression of Empty-Nest Elderly in China
This study aimed to explore the impact of social participation (SP) on physical functioning and depression among empty-nest elderly taking part in the fourth wave of the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey (CHARLS, 2018). The instrumental variable (IV) method and propensity score matching (PSM) method were used to analyse the impact of SP. The two-stage regression results of the IV method showed that SP has a significant negative impa…
Does County-Level Medical Centre Policy Influence the Health Outcomes of Patients with Trauma Transported by the Emergency Medical Service System? An Integrated Emergency Model in Rural China
This study aimed to assess the effect of the county-level medical centre policy on the health outcomes of trauma patients transported by emergency medical service (EMS) system in rural China. The methodology involved the use of electronic health records (EHRs, after 2016) of patients with trauma conditions such as head injury ( n = 1931), chest (back) injury ( n = 466), abdominal (waist) injury ( n = 536), and limb injury ( n = 857) who were tran…
Effect of an Integrated Payment System on the Direct Economic Burden and Readmission of Rural Cerebral Infarction Inpatients
Rural China is piloting an integrated payment system, which prepays a budget to a medical alliance rather than a single hospital. This study aims to evaluate the effect of this reform on the direct economic burden and readmission rates of cerebral infarction inpatients. The settlement records of 78,494 cerebral infarction inpatients were obtained from the New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme (NRCMS) database in Dingyuan and Funan Counties in the …
Is There a Difference in the Utilisation of Inpatient Services Between Two Typical Payment Methods of Health Insurance? Evidence from the New Rural Cooperative Medical Scheme in China
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of the differences between two typical payment methods for the new rural cooperative medical scheme (NRCMS) in China on the utilisation of inpatient services. Interrupted time-series analysis (ITSA) and propensity score matching (PSM) were used to measure the difference between two typical payment methods for the NRCMS with regard to the utilisation of inpatient services. After the reform was formally impl…
