The Oxford Handbook of Dante
Robert Joseph Rodini
I offer this tribute to Robert J. Rodini, our dear friend, colleague, long-time AATI member, and past editor of Italica, who passed away on May 28, 2023, at the age of eighty-six. Bob (or Rob, as many knew him) was a highly regarded member of our profession and a dedicated mainstay of our association. All who knew him valued his intelligence and expertise, his collaborative spirit and good sense, and his dedication to productive institutional cit…
Dante and the Bible

It provides an overview of his many contributions as AATI Vice-President and President and as Editor of Italica, as well as the roles he played in other academic organizations and publications

Dante's Artistry in Purgatorio Christopher Kleinhenz (bio) In his insightful and influential scholarly writing, Pier Massimo Forni has been particularly attentive to the language of the text, to questions of how rhetorical structures, discursive strategies, word choice and semantics combine to produce an exceptionally rich and variegated literary tapestry,1 as he does, for example, in Adventures in Speech, where he elucidates Boccaccio's finely h…
The Bird’s-Eye View
The Bird’s-Eye View: Dante’s Use of Perspective Christopher Kleinhenz (bio) For some time now I have investigated questions of how Dante’s cultural context shaped certain scenes and episodes in the Commedia, and these include the visual arts and architecture, music, the natural landscape and so on. It was, therefore, with great interest and pleasure that I received Giuseppe Mazzotta’s remarks at the annual meeting of the Modern Language Associati…
