Accessibility, Equity, and Safety in Emerging Mid-Sized Cities
Emerging mid-sized cities in the Global South face growing challenges in aligning transport infrastructure with equity and safety objectives under conditions of rapid urban expansion. While accessibility metrics are widely used in transport planning, their ability to capture functional inequalities and safety-related dynamics remains limited, particularly in corridor-level assessments. This study examines structural and functional accessibility p…
Operationalizing Symbolic Violence to Advance Gender Equality
Gender-based violence in public transportation is a global phenomenon that restricts women’s rights and autonomy. Most of the documentation relies on harassment and physical aggression, but the subtle internalized mechanisms that reproduce gender inequities remain insufficiently analyzed. This study involves the concept of symbolic violence as an analytical category to unveil how resignation and normalization of violence perpetuate gender power r…
Integrating Deep Learning into Educational Wellbeing
The growing prevalence of anxiety, depression, and stress among students highlights the urgent need for school-based strategies that promote psychological well-being and timely intervention. This study explores the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a scalable and data-driven tool to support institutional mental health initiatives in higher education. Using synthetic and real datasets derived from validated psychometric instruments (the Beck …
Adjustable Speed Drive Project for Teaching a Servo Systems Course Laboratory
This paper describes an adjustable speed drive for a three-phase motor, which has been implemented as a design for a servo system laboratory course in an engineering curriculum. The platform is controlled and analyzed in a LabVIEW environment and run on a PC. Theory is introduced in order to show the sensorless algorithms. These are computed by means of speed feedback from speed and flux estimators, which provide tracking of these variables in sp…
