  • Omenana as Postcolonial Mythopoetics

Walter Isaac•ARTICLE•The Journal of the Middle East…•2019

This article is a brief introduction to the writings of Nigerian scholar and writer Remy Ilona. In his work, Ilona argues that an undeniable induction can be made that the Igbo of Nigeria are religio-cultural descendants of the ancient Israelites as depicted in the Hebrew Bible. This article argues that his ideas constitute a postcolonial mythopoesis that is not only cosmic in scope, but also responsive to the social problems engendered by modern…

  • D-Cycloserine and Early Ethanol Exposure in Developing Rats

    Open Access•Walter Isaac, W L Isaac et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•2009

Pregnant rats were exposed to one of the following treatments: 20% aqueous sucrose (w/v; Control), 20% aqueous sucrose with 20 mg D-cycloserine (DCS), 20% aqueous sucrose with 5% ethanol (ETH), or 20% aqueous sucrose with both 20 mg DCS and 5% ethanol (DCS+ ETH). Treatments were delivered in 20 ml of drinking water provided daily, as pilot work had determined that this was the average daily water consumption for female rats. Treatments began on D…

  • Perceptions of Religious and Nonreligious Targets Who Participate in Premarital Sex

    Open Access•Susan V Isaac, Roger C Bailey et al.•ARTICLE•Social Behavior and Personality…•1995

University students (N=276) read one of twelve scenarios that varied a target's gender, the target's length of delay in a dating relationship before onset of sexual intercourse (1 month vs. 6 months ), and degree of a target's religious involvement ( never attended church, occasionally attends church, or regularly attends church). Subjects then rated how moral and trustworthy they thought the target person was and how likely they thought the dati…

  • Activation Level and the Production of Gastric Ulceration in the Rat

    PHYLLIS A HORNBUCKLE, Walter Isaac•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•1969

Sensory conditions and frontal cortical ablations thought to increase activation levels were found to produce a significant increase in gastric ulceration as a result of restraint

  • Effects of Illumination and White Noise on the Rate of Electrical Self-Stimulation of the Brain in Rats

    Open Access•Edmond R Venator, Barbara S Uehling et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1967

A consistency in the effects of food deprivation and amphetamine administration on both gross locomotor activity and electrical self-stimulation of the brain (ESSB) is noted. The effects of sensory conditions on ESSB were investigated. Rats were trained to press a bar for rewarding brain stimulation. When Ss had stabilized, they were tested in a complete factorial design composed of four levels of illumination and two levels of noise. It was foun…

  • Effect of Illumination and D-Amphetamine on the Activity of the Rhesus Macaque

    Open Access•Margery Alexander, Walter Isaac•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1965

The activity of the Rhesus macaque was measured under three levels of ambient illumination and three dosages of d-amphetamine. Analysis of variance indicated that activity increases as a function of increasing level of illumination and decreases as a function of increasing dosages of amphetamine. The interaction effect was nonsignificant

  • Role of Stimulation and Time in the Effects of Spaced Occipital Ablations

    Open Access•Walter Isaac•ARTICLE•Psychological Reports•1964

42 albino rats were trained preoperatively to make an avoidance response to a change in illumination. The occipital lobes were serially ablated. The interval between ablations and the sensory stimulation conditions during the interoperative interval were varied. Following the second operation retention of the original response was measured. Performance was found to be related to both the length of the interoperative interval and the existing stim…
