Hanna Arendt y su lectura de Aristóteles en La condición humana
In this article I try to analyze the reception of some Aristotelian concepts in Hanna Arendt's practical philosophy as developed in The Human Condition. In contrast to those who have presented Hanna Arendt's thought as a revitalization of the Aristotelian tradition, I point out the dependence of the Heideggerian vision of praxis, now interpreted in a social key. In particular, I will focus my attention on the way in which Arendt uses the notion o…
Power in Global Governance
Is there global governance beyond the State? What kind of power emerges in a global arena? In contrast to the neorealist position, which stresses the role of states in the constitution of international power, many Foucauldian interpretations have emerged that emphasize the role of power networks that are constituted through an episteme. In this article I will focus on global governance through a Platonic notion of power and the relationship Plato…
Psychopolitics and power in contemporary political thought
In this paper I compare the psychopolitical account given by Byung-Chul Han and Stiegler with the Foucauldian biopolitical framework. Taking into account Deleuze’s and Baudrillard’s remarks on the new society, Stiegler proposes to use the term psycho-power to complete Foucault’s model. Byung-Chul Han has suggested that we are in a psychopolitical age that goes far beyond the biopolitical account. This analysis is linked to Bauman’s work on liquid…
From Biopolitics to Psychopolitics in Byung-Chul Han’s social thought
In this article I analyse the concept of psycho-politics in Byung-Chul Han’s thought. I try to show how he transforms the bio-political comprehension of society (that has been developed by Foucault, Esposito and Agamben) into a new comprehensive framework that includes the influence of new technologies and new social and labour structures in the individuals. Whereas in the modern era the biopolitics emerged in the social body as an immunological …
The Development of Self-Knowledge in Plato’s Philosophy
The aim of this paper is to examine how the Greek motto γνῶθι σεαυτόν plays a central role in Plato’s philosophy in order to show how ethics and knowledge go hand in hand in his model of παιδεία. The question of self-knowledge is a practical and theoretical task in life which is developed implicitly in his dialogues, it is for this reason that i examine some passages of the Charmides, Alcibiades I, Phaedo and Republic in order to show how Plato d…
