Student–Faculty Interactions and Academic Outcomes
This study examined the association between student–faculty interactions and two academic outcomes (academic motivation and cumulative undergraduate grades) and how these relationships varied for students from different academic major groupings. Results suggested that the relationships examined in this study were moderated by academic major and highlight the potential differences for students in varying academic majors. “I Don’t Want to Spend the Rest of My Life Feeling Alone”
Previous research about postdocs has focused on the challenges they face in terms of pay and job security. This study expands upon this narrative to explore postdoctoral scholars’ experiences of connection and disconnection, or (dis)connection. The present study employed socialization theory in combination with a definition of professional socialization to frame how personal communities, institutions, and professional disciplines/associations fac…
Applied learning and student views of social and political involvement
While levels of civic engagement among undergraduate students in the United States have increased, understanding how applied learning experiences might facilitate or hinder promotion of civic attitudes, or personal importance of social and political involvement, can provide insights for both faculty and student affairs practitioners. Using longitudinal data from the Wabash National Study of Liberal Arts Education in the United States, this analys…
Applied Learning Experiences in Higher Education and Students’ Attitudes toward Professional Success
We examine the relationship between undergraduates’ engagement in applied learning experiences and changes in students’ fourth-year attitudes toward professional success and desire to contribute to the arts or sciences, using longitudinal data from the Wabash National Study. Results suggest applied learning experiences were positively or negatively associated with students’ attitudes toward professional success and making contributions to the art…

Research on college and university student experiences and outcomes can consider students’ well-being as a means of obtaining a fuller understanding of the positive impact of student–faculty interactions. This study uses longitudinal data from the Wabash National…

Research applications proposing to enroll these populations lie outside the scope of vulnerable populations named in the U.S. Code for Federal Regulations (45 CFR 46). Through a consideration of privacy, confidentialit…
Social Justice Collaboration in Schools
Undocumented Latino students raise unique challenges for school counselors and student affairs professionals. Fears of deportation, limited access to higher education, and restrictions in future opportunities for employment are common. These obstacles can be lessened in the academic setting when school counselors and student affairs professionals work collaboratively toward systemic social justice advocacy. The purpose of this article is to illum…
