  • Nature of the Firm, Relations of Exchange, and Objective of Production

Open Access•Himadrija Chakraborty, Rahul Pal et al.•ARTICLE•Review of Radical Political…•2026

This article analyses the nature of firms, relations of exchange, and the objective of production of micro firms engaged in two types of manufacturing activities operating across West Bengal, India: handloom weaving and forging fabrication. Our primary data-based analysis shows that while the handloom is an entirely household labor-based activity, forging fabrication significantly uses hired labor. However, these micro firms are intrinsically non…

  • Neo-Dualism

Open Access•Kasturi Sadhu, Saumya Chakrabarti•ARTICLE•Review of Radical Political…•2021

A dominant strand of orthodoxy argues that the problem of the informal sector could be mitigated through the capitalistic growth process. Amrita Ghosh, Somenath Ghosh et al.•ARTICLE•International Critical Thought•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 5

Given this perspective, the authors show that there is, in fact, a change in the location of Indian slums and the slum population from city centers to city fringes, where fringes are fo…

  • Inclusive Growth and Social Change

Saumya Chakrabarti•BOOK•Inclusive Growth and Social Change•2016

With in-depth theoretical foundations and empirical analysis, the book interrogates the paradigm of 'growth' being 'inclusive', proposing that only a comprehensive structural change can resolve the challenges of the informal sector

  • National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme of India

    Saumya Chakrabarti, Aparajita Mukherjee•ARTICLE•International Critical Thought•2013•References: 2

The need for containment of “surplus population,” deployment of untapped resources and ensuring “right to work” have induced the developing world to take up programmes like the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in India. However, contrary to the proposed target of short- and long-run employment generation outside the circuit of big capital, the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, in fact, could act as an instrument for capital ac…
