Provenance Study of a Double-Stamped Jar Handle of the Early Islamic Period from Ramla
A zir-jar handle found on the surface in Area B of the excavation in Ramla exhibited two stamps of identical design and orientation. It seems to have been produced in a workshop in the vicinity of Jerusalem (Nebi Samwil?) during the Early Islamic period
A Terracotta Pen-and-Inkwell Case from Jerusalem
Excavations in the Strauss Building, located next to the Western Wall Plaza in the Old City of Jerusalem, yielded a unique ornamental two-level terracotta pen-and-inkwell case, comprising an upper level with a rectangular pencase and a bowl-shaped inkwell holder, and a lower level with two compartments. Many remains of the Muslim pilgrimage road from Cairo to Mecca, the Darb al-Hajj al-Maṣri are preserved in the Eilat region of southern Israel. These include sections of the road, camps, and other associated structures. Most of these remains date to the Mamluk and Ottoman periods. The Archaeology of Regional Muslim Pilgrimage Reevaluated
This research constitutes a first attempt to discuss a Muslim pilgrimage site from a holistic, in-depth archaeological perspective. Our case study is Nabi Rubin, on the southern coastal plain of Israel, which was active from at least the early 15th century until the late British Mandate period and was one of the major foci of Muslim pilgrimage in historical Palestine.
