  • Differences in Peak Impact Accelerations Among Foot Strike Patterns in Recreational Runners

Open Access•Christopher Napier, Lauren Fridman et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2022•References: 2

Introduction Running-related injuries (RRIs) occur from a combination of training load errors and aberrant biomechanics. Impact loading, measured by peak acceleration, is an important measure of running biomechanics that is related to RRI. Foot strike patterns may moderate the magnitude of impact load in runners. The effect of foot strike pattern on peak acceleration has been measured using tibia-mounted inertial measurement units (IMUs), but not…

  • Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) Outcomes Following Injury in Childhood and Adolescence Using EuroQol (EQ-5D) Responses with Pooled Longitudinal Data

    Open Access•Joanna F Dipnall, Frederick P Rivara et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

HRQoL outcomes over time for children and adolescents post-injury differed across key demographic and injury related attributes. HRQoL did not reach levels consistent with full health by 24 months with recovery plateauing from 6 to 24 months. Tailored interventions are required to respond to the varying post-injury recovery trajectories in this population

  • Racing for Representation

    Open Access•Jenna Seyidoglu, Candace Roberts et al.•ARTICLE•Communication & Sport•2021•References: 19

The covers of running magazines are powerful ideological tools, and the individuals featured on covers shape broader public perception of who belongs in running. To examine representation, this study analyzed 285 images of athletes on the covers of three popular North American running magazines over an 11-year period (2009–2019). Through a visual content analysis of cover photos and the use of intersectional feminist theory as a framework, we fou…

  • Pediatric Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (PaedsCTAS) as a Measure of Injury Severity

Open Access•Morgan Yates, Takuro Ishikawa et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2016

This research explored whether the pediatric version of the Canadian Triage Acuity Scale (PaedsCTAS) represented a valid alternative indicator for surveillance of injury severity. Every patient presenting in a Canadian emergency department is assigned a CTAS or PaedsCTAS score in order to prioritize access to care and to predict the nature and scope of care that is likely to be required. The five-level PaedsCTAS score ranges from I (resuscitation…

  • Knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and behaviours of older adults about pneumococcal immunization, a Public Health Agency of Canada/Canadian Institutes of Health Research Influenza Research Network (PCIRN)…

Open Access•Amy Schneeberg, Julie A Bettinger et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

These results indicate healthcare recommendation significantly influenced vaccine uptake in this population of older adults. Measures to encourage healthcare providers to offer the vaccine may help increase coverage

  • Changes in the ‘Healthy Migrant Effect’ in Canada

Open Access•Alden Blair, Amy Schneeberg•ARTICLE•Journal of Immigrant and Minority…•2013
