  • Assessing the effects of sea level rise on coastal wetlands and urban infrastructure using the SLAMM model

Open Access•Andrés García-Ruiz, Gerardo Leal et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Urban Management•2026

Climate change poses a critical threat to coastal wetlands and urban infrastructure, especially in the Valdivia River basin in Chile. This study uses the Sea Level Affecting Marshes Model (SLAMM) to project changes in land use and areas prone to flooding due to sea level rise. The results indicate that a loss of approximately 15 km 2 of irregularly flooded wetlands is expected, which will be transformed into regularly flooded wetlands. This will …

  • Critical mapping of the energy-gender nexus

    Open Access•Harshavardhan Jatkar, Sarah Bradshaw et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Research & Social Science•2026•References: 19

Existing energy research is frequently criticised for its lack of gender sensitivity and for reproducing masculine biases. While literature exploring energy and gender is growing, there remains a significant gap in understanding how these fields precisely interact. Exploring this intersection is important to advance the agenda for gender equality in energy research, policy and practice. This article presents a systematic review of papers publishe…

  • Intense drought and vegetation browning exacerbate air temperature rise in unirrigated peri-urban areas under global warming

    Open Access•Guillermo A Moncada-Morales, Stephen J Livesley et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2025

  • A Global Review of Vegetation’s Interaction Effect on Urban Heat Mitigation Across Different Climates

    Open Access•Guillermo A Moncada-Morales, Konstantin Verichev et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Science•2025

The urbanisation process of cities disrupts the natural energy balance and surface radiation, making cities relatively warm. While vegetation has been widely recognised as a key factor in mitigating urban heat, its effectiveness is shaped by interactions with urban morphology, surface cover types, and the background climate. This paper presents a bibliometric analysis of studies examining the role of vegetation in mitigating urban heat, with a pa…

  • The influence of the urban heat island effect on the energy performance of residential buildings in a city with an oceanic climate during the summer period

    Open Access•Konstantin Verichev, C Salazar-Concha et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2023

The intensification of urban growth and climate change are affecting the energy and thermal performance of buildings. In recent years, the issue of building resilience to urban heat island (UHI) conditions has become increasingly relevant. The energy performance of buildings can vary significantly in different areas of the same city, regardless of their size. The aim of this study was to evaluate the energy effects of UHI intensity differences in…

  • A comparative analysis of sustainable building assessment methods

Open Access•Carmen Díaz-López, Carmen Díaz López et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2019

  • Analysis of the scientific evolution of sustainable building assessment methods

Open Access•Carmen Díaz-López, Manuel Carpio et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2019
