  • Electric vehicles and rooftop solar energy

    Open Access•Stephen Bull, Koral Buch et al.•ARTICLE•Energy Research & Social Science•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 8

This study investigates household decisions regarding adoption of solar panels and plug-in electric vehicles in the United States (CA, CO, FL, MA, MN, TX, VA). Although the adoption of each technology is well-documented, the dynamics of their co-adoption have been understudied. This study uses Theory of Consumption Values to investigate co-adoption decisions. Employing qualitative interviews with co-adopters and single technology adopters, this r…

  • Why do some consumers not charge their plug-in hybrid vehicles? Evidence from Californian plug-in hybrid owners

Open Access•Debapriya Chakraborty, Scott Hardman et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

The environmental benefits of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are closely related to the driving and charging behavior of vehicle owners. It is often wrongly assumed that PHEV drivers plug-in once per day. Using data from drivers of the vehicles we show this is not the case and that some drivers rarely charge their PHEV. If the vehicle is not plugged-in regularly, the vehicle will drive fewer electric miles and more gasoline miles, there…
