Shipwrecks and Maritime Heritage in Coastal Protected Areas of Rocha, Uruguay
New insights into the use, chronology and nautical performance of dugout canoes from the central basin of the La Plata River in Paraguay
This paper focuses on the study of dugout canoes and Indigenous navigation in Paraguay, considering the vast hydrographic potential provided by the country’s two main rivers, the Paraná and the Paraguay, in addition to numerous tributaries, rivers, and streams that run throughout the territory. The recording and study of five dugout canoes from Paraguay, of both ethnographic and archaeological origin, were carried out. The nautical characteristic…
Focusing on the presentation of the first two female graduates of archaeology in Uruguay, Nelsys Fusco y Mónica Sans, this paper presents the history and main results of research on women in Uruguayan archaeology. The article was elaborated based on the presentation for the Seminar "Archaeologists of South America. Stories of resilience" coordinated by Carito Tavera Medina and Margarita Díaz-Andreu. The research methodology is based on the analys…
Four Dugout Canoes in Uruguayan Collections: Our Early Maritime Heritage
As part of an investigation of indigenous navigation in the Rio de la Plata basin, four dugout canoes were located in Uruguayan collections. They were recorded using a form, photographs, and drawings. Samples were taken for radiocarbon dating, and dates range from 253BP±20 to 105 ± 20 BP. The analysis of nautical features allows for possible identifications of origin, one canoe being local, and the other three assigned to a regional context. No c…
Tagli, innesti, margini e cicatrici: Il ritorno di Renzo
Renzo, the protagonist of Manzoni's "I promessi sposi", travels twice to Milan and back home. Both journeys are important, but it is the investigation of the second homecoming in particular that seems to provide us with a telling allegory of the "juice of the whole story" : by showing the imperfect circle described by the character's journeys, as well as his reflection on the problematic relationship between happiness and memory
Bilanci: Federigo Tozzi 1990-2000 (review)
The paper investigates a formal feature recurrent in most narrative texts by Tozzi, in which often an excess of tension is abruptly brought to a negative or positive conclusion. The texts analysed include "Bestie", the novels "Ricordi di un giovane impiegato", "Con gli occhi chiusi", "Gli egoisti", "Il podere", "Tre croci", and a few representative stories: "La mia amicizia", "Marito e moglie", "Il crocifisso", "La notte di Natale

Lezione Su La Malora Di Beppe Fenoglio

Wood, Garden, locus amoenus in Ariosto's Orlando Furioso
Wood, Garden, locus amoenus in Ariosto’s Orlando Furioso Eduardo Saccone The subject of this paper is very limited: to the presence and function of the garden in Ariosto’s poem; more precisely—as mentioned in the title—to the relation between wood and garden in the Orlando furioso. I will attempt to be even more precise later on, when I will try to further clarify my use of the terms garden and wood. For a start, it is obvious that to raise the q…

Figures of Silence in the Orlando Furioso
It may seem surprising, or even paradoxical, that one should dwell on subject such as silence in poem in which noise has always been underlined. To quote only from two relatively recent studies: The Orlando Furioso is certainly noisy poem, begins 1988 article by James W. Mirollo which bears the title the Significant Acoustics of Ariosto's Noisy Poem;l and C. P. Brand, some fifteen years ago, wrote in fine book of his on Ariosto: How noisy that sy…
Nobility and Literature. Questions on Tomasi di Lampedusa
I am afraid that the topic I have chosen for this paper may seem obvious, and hence somewhat unpromising with regard to exegetical and interpretive novelty. Obvious and rather banal. On the other hand, let me add at once, I hope not too obvious. And for this reason I have cautioned myself with the general nature of my title, its extension, that includes not only The Leopard but all the other texts of Tomasi di Lampedusa, particularly Lighea, as t…
