  • Using Spatial Analysis to Design a Solid Waste Collection System

    Open Access•Juan Antonio Araiza-Aguilar, María Neftalí Rojas-Valencia et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Science•2024•References: 2

In this paper, a proposal was presented to improve the MSW collection service in the municipality of Reforma, in Chiapas, Mexico. Specific field work was developed and various spatial analysis techniques were applied in the GIS environment. The application of a multivariate analysis technique (Grouping Analysis) allowed the study area to be clustered into three waste collection sectors with common characteristics, which were the basis for generat…

  • Analysis of a Municipal Solid Waste Disposal Site

    Open Access•Juan Antonio Araiza-Aguilar, María Neftalí Rojas-Valencia et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2023

In this study, the operation of a final disposal site for municipal solid waste in the state of Chiapas, in Mexico, was evaluated. Several spatial analyses and Geographic Information Technology (GIT) tools were used. It was found that the site’s current operation and location are deficient, partially complying with regulations. The gaseous dispersion is not far-reaching (from 100 to 8725 μg/m3 for landfill gas, and from 0.01 to 0.35 μg/m3 for H2S…

  • Spatial modelling of gaseous emissions from two municipal solid waste dump sites

Juan Antonio Araiza-Aguilar, María Neftalí Rojas-Valencia•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

This paper reports the spatial modelling of gaseous emissions from two municipal solid waste dump sites to determine exposure to landfill gases. The AERMOD modelling software and the Mexican Biogas Model were used, with information from nearby meteorological stations for the period 2015–2016. It was observed that, at one of the dump sites, gas emissions reach populated areas, but in concentrations too low to be detected by the olfactory pathway (…
