Open Access•Frederico Batista Pereira, Gerard Russo et al.•ARTICLE•Latin American Politics and Society•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 67

Studies show that cash transfer programs increase incumbent approval through their financial impact and clear association with the executive. But does this effect hold when it is the legislature rather than the incumbent proposing the program? Amid the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, more than 60 million Brazilians received an emergency assistance payment that was proposed by Congress against resistance from the executive. This study leverages this uniqu…

  • Democratic Principles and Performance: What do the Experts Think

Open Access•Gerard Russo, George Avelino et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Politics in Latin…•2022•References: 4

Recently, many political scientists have argued that democracy may be threatened more by the erosion of its principles, embodied in the democratic institutions, than by traditional breakdowns. This debate led to a series of initiatives that sought to identify and evaluate this process of institutional erosion. This research note contributes to these efforts by assessing the importance and current performance of a set of formal and informal democr…

    Open Access•Gerard Russo, Jairo Pimentel Junior et al.•ARTICLE•Opinião Pública•2022•Cited by: 9•References: 29

  • Pesquisas eleitorais no Brasil: Tendências E Desempenho

    Open Access•Fernando Meireles, Gerard Russo•ARTICLE•Estudos Avançados•2022•References: 14

  • Agreeing with moral disengagement statements: An experimental study with young adults

Open Access•Gerard Russo, Roberta Gurgel Azzi et al.•ARTICLE•Estudos de Psicologia (Campinas)•2021

How do individuals react to statements that condone acts of corruption and violence? This article contributes to the understanding of how people respond to discourses related to antisocial practices by examining how (1) information about the person who made the statement, and (2) the use of additional information as justification for the antisocial statement affect individuals’ agreement with this type of discourse. Relying on moral disengagement…

  • Education, the wealth of nations, and political tolerance toward homosexuals: A multilevel analysis of 26 countries in the Americas

    Open Access•M A Seligson, Daniel E Moreno Morales et al.•ARTICLE•Opinião Pública•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 45

While the positive effect of education on political tolerance toward minorities is well-known, we understand far less about education's impact on tolerance across varying contexts. Utilizing multilevel statistical techniques, we find an interactive effect indicating that education at the individual level has a greater effect on political tolerance toward those who identify as homosexuals in wealthier countries. The results suggest that (1) comple…
