  • Sex Differences in Fatal Poisoning Among Drug Users in France

Open Access•Agathe Langlamet, Marc Manceau et al.•ARTICLE•Women s Health Issues•2026

BACKGROUND: The DRAMES register (Décès en Relation avec l'Abus de Médicaments Et de Substances) is a French database of drug-related deaths reported by forensic toxicology experts. This study evaluated sex differences in the substances involved in deaths, with the aim of improving public policy on prevention and care for women with substance use disorders. METHODS: We assessed 6,068 drug-related deaths that occurred from January 1, 2010, to Decem…

  • Case report

Open Access•Coralie Hermetet, Marine Jourdan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

A case of chronic intoxication by 2,4-dinitrophenol (2,4-DNP) is reported in a 21-year-old bodybuilder, also known as an abuser of anabolic steroids, who died after ingesting 2 grams of this substance after 6 months of repeated consumption. The bodybuilder presented the triad of symptoms – tachycardia, tachypnoea, profuse sweating – from 6 months before his death, and was hospitalised for multiple organ failure 4 months before his death. Medical …

  • Determination of 3-MeO-PCP in human blood and urine in a fatal intoxication case, with a specific focus on metabolites identification

Open Access•Nadia Arbouche, Pascal Kintz et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Sciences Research•2021

3-Methoxyphencyclidine (3-MeO-PCP) is a new psychoactive substance that belongs to the phencyclidines family, first identified in Europe in 2012. This drug presents a stronger binding to N -methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors when compared to phencyclidine, which results in more potent effects, even at low concentrations. Very few articles have been published regarding 3-MeO-PCP in forensic toxicology. In this paper, the authors present a fatal 3…

  • Identification of adrafinil and its main metabolite modafinil in human hair. Self-administration study and interpretation of an authentic case

Open Access•Alice Ameline, Laurie Gheddar et al.•ARTICLE•Forensic Sciences Research•2020

For several years, the misuse of stimulant substances is increasingly observed both in the field of sport, to improve the functions of the body and therefore to be more performant, and also by non-athletes to make life more tolerable on a daily basis. Adrafinil, 2-((diphenylmethyl)sulfinyl)-N-hydroxyacetamide, is a drug designed for the treatment of narcolepsy by promoting an awakened state, and to treat alertness and neurological symptoms in the…
