  • On the functional logic of cultural value in Locke and Cassirer’s philosophies of culture

Open Access•Myron Moses Jackson, Myron Jackson•ARTICLE•Man and World•2024

  • Ecstasies of Uplift

Myron Moses Jackson, Myron Jackson•ARTICLE•Secular Studies•2023

“Religion is the decoration of life,” declares Peter Sloterdijk in his newly translated Making the Heavens Speak: Religion as Poetry ( MHS ), arguing that much of our understanding of the spiritual life is distorted and exceptionally narrow. With refreshing and renewed vision, this text points out the ways in which the heavenly skies have been a source of divine inspiration and cipher for theopoetic illuminations. We have failed to grasp how mode…

  • Undoing the Mirage of Racism through Philosophy of Race

    Open Access•Myron Moses Jackson•ARTICLE•Eidos A Journal for Philosophy of…•2022

Preview: No shortage of bigotry and prejudice can be found around the world. But why race to the bottom and compete for a monopoly on tragedy in human mistreatment? The philosophy of race is an intricate piece to the study of language, art, history, and culture and wants to learn about elsewhere and distant others. How we go about understanding the issues of identity politics and what solidifies a community’s sense of purpose and mythic conscious…

  • Racial Foster Care, Contraceptive Knowledge and Adoption in Alain Locke’s Philosophy of Culture

    Open Access•Myron Moses Jackson•ARTICLE•Eidos A Journal for Philosophy of…•2022

This article confronts the problems of establishing normative restrictive claims for delegitimizing conduct and attitudes of cultural appropriation. Using C. Thi Nguyen’s and Matthew Strhol’s intimacy account (IA) as a background, I offer an alternative of cultural adoption relying upon Alain Locke’s value theory and philosophical pluralism. The phenomenon of cultural adoption I propose develops some insights from Nguyen’s and Strohl’s IA, while …

  • Unmasking the Fragility of Trigger Warnings, Safe Spaces, and Code‐Switching on Campus

    Open Access•Myron Moses Jackson, Myron Jackson•ARTICLE•Educational Theory•2021

In this essay, Myron Jackson offers a critique of trigger warnings, safe spaces, and code‐switching that is based on two grounds. First, these practices derive from ideals of assimilation and appropriation, and are therefore wedded to a logic of domination. Second, these practices promote fragility. Increased reliance on trigger warnings, safe spaces, and code‐switching is, Jackson contends, a biopolitical reflexive response of bodies under erasu…

Preview: /Review: Tommy Shelby and Brandon M. Terry, eds. To Shape a New World: Essays on the Political Philosophy of Martin Luther King, Jr. (Cambridge, MA; London, England: Belknap Press, 2018), 463 pages./ To mark the fiftieth anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s assassination, Harvard professors Tommie Shelby and Brandon M. Terry have produced a masterful reappraisal of King’s legacy, specifically as a political philosopher. More importan…

  • On the Power of Cultural Adoption Through Integral Fakes and Reunification

    Open Access•Myron Moses Jackson•ARTICLE•Eidos A Journal for Philosophy of…•2020•References: 5

Cultural identities and rituals are intersecting through increasingly overlapping social worlds. Whether one chooses to join in this mixing and to what degree, that is the question. Appropriationists and assimilationists assume a logic of domination that aims to justify forms of social entitlement, claiming exclusive possession or ownership of cultural heritages. This article argues that cultural adoption is a stronger frame for understanding how…

  • On the Lookout for the Dark Arts and Finding Our Better Selves in Another white Man’s Burden

    Open Access•Myron Moses Jackson•ARTICLE•Eidos A Journal for Philosophy of…•2019

I can conceive of no greater calamity than the assimilation of the Negro into our social and political life as our equal." -President of the United States of America Abraham Lincoln
