Kinematic changes in 5-m swimming start performance using the new double kick start block
Enhancing start performance can substantially reduce overall race time, particularly in sprint swimming events. The aim of this study was to examine differences in angular and temporal characteristics of individual start phases over 5 m when performing from the new DKS ("double kick start") starting block in various pedal angle settings and from the OSB12 starting platform. The sample consisted of 13 junior competitive swimmers (age 17.7 ± 1.1 ye…
Cognitive functions and skill level in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Professionals appeared to score higher in accuracy-related measures and showed slower reaction times; however, these patterns should be interpreted as preliminary trends rather than evidence of differences in underlying mechanisms or strategic prioritization. Given the very small sample size and the exploratory nature of the study, no conclusions can be drawn about underlying cognitive mechanisms. The findings suggest preliminary, unstable patter…
Relationship of selected conditioning parameters and sport performance indicators in karate
Introduction The variables of aerobic performance and aerobic capacity are of significant importance in maintaining intensity during a fight and also contribute to faster recovery between rounds in sports fighting in karate. Anaerobic performance is crucial for the execution of the techniques during high-intensity offensive or defensive actions that determine the outcome of a fight. The objective of this study was to assess the relationship betwe…
Comparison of the Physical Fitness Profile of Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Athletes with Reference to Training Experience
Brazilian jiu-jitsu athletes performed better in strength tests (static strength, relative strength, shoulder girdle strength, functional strength). High correlations between the training load and the level of physical fitness were found in flexibility and strength tests in BJJ athletes and most strength tests in Muay Thai athletes
Comparison of Selected Characteristics of Slovak and Polish Representatives in Kickboxing
There exists a positive correlation between the technical and tactical indicators of kickboxers and the explosive strength of lower limbs, strength endurance, abdominal muscle strength, speed and aerobic endurance. Differences between Slovak and Polish kickboxers have been shown in the attack activity index and in the level of strength endurance. The level of speed and explosive power of the lower limbs was comparable in both groups of kickboxers
Relationships between Socioeconomic Indicators and Motor Performance of Schoolchildren in Slovakia
Physical inactivity is currently a significant problem in Western societies. Among the many factors that affect the amount of physical activity in children, socioeconomic status, the type of school, and the area where they live can play a major role in physical development. A total of 31,620 children (6.3 ± 0.53 years; 15,726 boys; 15,893 girls), representing 55.6 % of the entire Slovak population of first graders, participated in eight motor per…
Key Parameters Affecting Kick Start Performance in Competitive Swimming
The study aims to determine the contribution of kinematic parameters to time to 5 m without underwater undulating and kicking. Eighteen male competitive swimmers started from three weighted positions and set the kick plate to positions 1-5. We used SwimPro cameras and the Dartfish© software. In the on-block phase, we found significant correlations ( p p < 0.01) between block time and rear ankle angle, respectively, to time to 2 m; rear knee angle…
Leg Dominance and OSB12 Kick Start Performance in Young Competitive Swimmers
The purpose of this study was to examine differences in starting and kick-plate positions, pointing to an effect on kick-start performance with the dominant and non-dominant feet placed on the front edge of the OSB12 starting block. The sample included 20 female competitive swimmers whose average age was 16.1 ± 0.6 years. To assess swimmers' lower body explosive strength and determine leg dominance, a triple hop distance test was administered. We…
Overweight and obesity in Slovak high school students and body composition indicators
The characteristics of body composition are very useful determinants of health and nutrition status. Our data revealed a direct association between BMI value and chosen body composition indicators. The most accurate indicator of overweight and obesity in our study appears to be waist circumference for both male and female population
