Development and evaluation of a values-based anti-doping education program for university sport in Japan: The Univas clean sports intervention
Background Anti-doping education has increasingly emphasized values-based approaches that aim to foster ethical decision-making and long-term engagement in clean sport. However, relatively few studies have reported the systematic development and evaluation of educational programs specifically designed for university athletes within authentic educational contexts. Purpose The present study aimed to develop and preliminarily evaluate a UNIVAS anti-…
A quarter of young Japanese women are underweight: Thin-ideal internalization and self-esteem mediate exercise habits and body satisfaction, but different mechanisms with normal-range weight
The results highlight that the pathways through which exercise habits affect body satisfaction differ according to body mass index. For underweight women, reducing thin-ideal internalization and enhancing self-esteem through exercise habits is crucial. In contrast, interventions directly boosting self-esteem may be more effective for women with normal-range weight. These findings clarify the distinct roles of exercise habits in influencing body s…
Negative interaction between emotional vulnerability and depressive symptoms may heighten suicidal ideation among Japanese university students: A cross-sectional study
The negative interaction between emotional vulnerability and depressive symptoms may heighten suicidal ideation among Japanese university students. Interventions targeting emotional vulnerability may help reduce suicidal ideation and achieve lower suicide rates
Multidimensional background examination of young underweight Japanese women: Focusing on their dieting experiences
Introduction: This study examines the background of underweight young women in Japan from multiple perspectives, focusing on whether they have ever dieted. Methods: A screening survey was administered to 5,905 underweight (BMI < 18.5 kg/m2) women aged 18-29 years, who could report their birth weight recorded in their mother-child handbook. Valid responses were obtained from 400 underweight and 189 normal-weight women. The survey collected data re…
The association between subjective anti-doping knowledge and objective knowledge among Japanese university athletes: A cross-sectional study
The present results revealed that Japanese university athletes' subjective ADK did not match their objective ADK . In the context of the TPB , there may be limitations in the perceived behavioral control in anti-doping knowledge. Even if athletes view doping as a wrongful act and have formed attitudes and subjective norms to comply with the rules, the results suggest that errors may occur in the composition of behavioral intentions due to a lack …
The influence of vulnerability on depression among Japanese university athletes
Objective This study examined the estimated causal relationship between vulnerability and depressive symptoms in Japanese university athletes and how the degree of vulnerability affects depressive symptoms. Materials and methods In Study 1, 248 Japanese university athletes completed a continual survey from Time 1 to Time 3. In Study 2, 562 Japanese university athletes responded to another survey during the same period. Structural equation modelin…
Relationship between the level of willingness to learn about anti-doping and objective knowledge among Japanese university athletes: A cross-sectional study
Previous studies have indicated that athletes' anti-doping knowledge is inadequate. Athletes' willingness to learn about anti-doping ( willingness to learn ) may influence their anti-doping knowledge, but the actual situation is unclear. This study aimed to determine the relationship between athletes' willingness to learn about anti-doping and their objective measurement knowledge and explore directions for educational interventions. The eligible…
