  • Making meaning of the smallest units of leisure

Open Access•Karen Gallant, Heidi Lauckner et al.•ARTICLE•Leisure Studies•2026

Building on earlier work conceptualising everyday moments of leisure (EML) as momentary forms of leisure experienced amidst ordinary spaces and activities, this phenomenological research sought to understand how momentary leisure experiences come to occur in people’s lives, the characteristics of such experiences and the meanings attributed to them. Data collection involved interviews with 20 individuals who engaged in up to three interviews abou…

Stephanie Mason, Katie Aubrecht•ARTICLE•Journal of Canadian Studies•2023

Prior to the pandemic, people living with dementia (PLWD) and the family members, friends, and neighbours who support their care already encountered physical, health, and social challenges relating to partici…

I wanted to share this and other memories of her through a eulogy that was whimsical, far-ranging, and entertaining, but I struggled to write one. My struggles reminded me of other writing challenges, such as my recent dissertation proposal, although there I was partly guided by my arts-informed research methodology framework. Gradually, I found some of th…

  • L-Systems, Melodies and Musical Structure

Stephanie Mason, Michael Saffle•ARTICLE•Leonardo Music Journal•1994

Among musical symmetries and self-similarities are those that can be produced using Lindenmayer-system (L-system) curves to generate melodies and rhythmic patterns. In 1986, Przemyslaw Prusinkiewicz introduced a simple method of producing relatively complex musical scores that incorporate a legible internal structure. Using a scheme called edge-rewriting, one of the authors, Stephanie Mason, has extended Prusinkiewicz’s methods to generate melodi…
