  • Karstic microrefugia reflect diverse biogeographic affinities of vascular plant species

Open Access•Zoltán Bátori, Kata Frei et al.•ARTICLE•Acta geographica Slovenica•2026

Microrefugia are small areas that allow species to persist in changing environments. Dolines in karst landscapes may function as such safe havens. By analysing vegetation data from 270 plots collected within nine large dolines and on the surrounding plateau in Northern Hungary, we found that topographic complexity in dolines has the potential to support a wide array of plant species with diverse biogeographic affinities. To safeguard the large nu…

    Open Access•Ágnes Tóth•ARTICLE•Forum Historiae•2026

The present study looks at Hungarian expellees and refugees from Czechoslovakia who migrated to Hungary in 1945, focusing specifically on the Hungarian government’s refugee policy and its implementation. • Unique accessories and connection network of a Gepid Period child burial. New data on the distribution of early medieval ivory artefacts

Open Access•Ágnes Tóth, Gábor Wilhelm et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Archaeologica Academiae…•2023

The Gepid Period row cemetery at Tiszaug-Országúti bevágás was unearthed in 2018–2019. Grave 301 was one of the outstanding burials amongst the 194 graves unearthed thus far. It kept the remains of a 9–11-year old boy, who was laid to rest in a scale-down burial created according to the funerary customs of the area and era but dressed in a mortuary costume and provided with goods befitting adult men. He had a purse hanging from his belt, containi…

  • “Coneheads” in the Gepid period

Open Access•Ágota Madai, Tamás Szeniczey et al.•ARTICLE•Hungarian Archaeology•2022

The deliberate physical transformation of the human body is a very ancient custom that humans have been practicing since prehistoric times. Most methods concerned the soft tissues of the body, the piercing, expanding, and stretching of which have been widespread in terms of both time and space. Significantly fewer procedures targeted the bony skeletal parts. One of these is the artificial modification of the skull, of which, also, examples are kn…

  • Csúcsfejek” a gepida korból

A legáltalánosabb gyakorlat a test lágy részeit érintette. A lágyszövetek átfúrása, tágítása, nyújtása, valamint a tetoválás művészete mind földrajzi értelemben, mind kronológiai szempontból széles körben elterjedt. A testmódosító eljárások ezzel szemben a csontos vázat jóval ritkábban érintették. Ebbe a csoportba sorolhatjuk a koponya mesterséges torzítását, me…

  • Research Questions and Methodological Approaches in the Literature on the History of the German Minority in Hungary between 1945 and 1955

    Open Access•Ágnes Tóth•ARTICLE•Rocznik Polsko-Niemiecki•2020

In my study, I summarise the content issues, methodological approaches and the most important results of the historical literature dealing with the history of the German minority in Hungary during the decade after the Second World War. It can be said that the historical research on the expulsion of Germans from Hungary up to 1990, the change of regime, was characterised by a positivist, descriptive, event-centric approach. The questions of this r…

    Open Access•Ágnes Tóth•ARTICLE•Acta Archaeologica Academiae…•2019

The aim of this paper is to examine a group of brooches whose numbers have been increasing in recent years to determine their origins, their relationship to each other and their role in the fine metalwork, goldsmith practice of the period. These brooches and pairs of brooches were found in ten sites scattered across a large geographic area (Szarvas, La-Rue-Saint-Pierre, Bernhardsthal, Uppåkra, Narona, Hemmingen, 'Italy', Collegno, Domoszló, Nagyv…
