  • The Techno-Social Vanguard

Lawrence Quill, Hasmet Uluorta•ARTICLE•Journal for the Study of Radicalism•2025

Recent interest in the concept of the vanguard or vanguardism has shed new light on what was regarded until recently as a discredited concept.1 For the purposes of this article, we take vanguardism to mean a specific form of epistemologically privileged extremism promoted by a particular group through novel organizational means. Our particular focus here is upon what we term techno-social vanguardism. Our intention is to expand the notion of vang…

Higher education within the USA is increasingly perceived to be in a state of crisis. This crisis exposes the USA and its citizens to risks that spell out disaster whether it is from a loss of national global competitiveness, a reduction in the standard of living and/or deep challenges to social cohesion. The suggested remedy to this condition is to transform current educational practices and institutions to better produce ‘knowledge workers’ who…

  • Ethical Conduct and Public Service

    Open Access•Lawrence Quill•ARTICLE•The American Review of Public…•2008•Cited by: 2•References: 10

Over the past two decades, a variety of approaches to teaching and encouraging public administration ethics have been advanced. To that end, theories of social justice, citizenship claims, integrity-based approaches, moral leadership, and a renewed emphasis on professionalism have all made significant contributions to the discussion. This article offers a different approach through a reading of Kazuo Ishiguro's The Remains of the Day. Ishiguro's …
