Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Fairy-Tale Injustice: Overcoming Everyday Aggression
The 1957 and 1997 adaptations of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella make the problems of relational aggression and postracial macroaggression known to vast audiences by highlighting the pain of social inequity. Theatrical elements of staging and set design, along with televisual camera work, show audiences how aggression happens in everyday social exchanges. Recognizing aggressive superiority in the “Cinderella” tale type, and specifically in R…
Labour relations in law enforcement agencies on the example of the prosecutor's office: A comparative analysis of Ukraine and other countries
The need to assess how the reforms will affect the rights of employees and identify areas for improvement based on international comparisons has made it important to study labour relations in law enforcement agencies, especially in prosecution services. Understanding and strengthening labour relations in law enforcement is crucial for maintaining the rule of law and public trust in the judiciary in light of changes in state legislation aimed at p…

Criando Territórios Em Resistência: Periferias Urbanas, Economias Diversas E O Papel Socioeconômico De Creches E Crecheiras Em Santa Luzia, Distrito Federal
A análise desse …

Identifying Impressions of Baba Yaga: Navigating the Uses of Attachment and Wonder on Soviet and American Television
The rise of Baba Yaga on international television provides an excellent case study for analyzing viewing practices associated with identification and allegiance. In analyzing Baba Yaga’s presence on Soviet and American television, we argue that viewing wonder tales leads to deep and lasting identification, attachment, and allegiance. Baba Yaga’s presence and popularity on Russian and American television allows us to explore how forming such deep …

Baba Yaga, Monsters of the Week, and Pop Culture’s Formation of Wonder and Families through Monstrosity
This paper considers transforming forms and their purposes in the popular culture trope of the televised Monster of the Week (MOTW). In the rare televised appearances outside of Slavic nations, Baba Yaga tends to show up in MOTW episodes. While some MOTW are contemporary inventions, many, like Baba Yaga, are mythological and fantastic creatures from folk narratives. Employing the concept of the folkloresque, we explore how contemporary audiovisua…
American Folklore Scholarship, Tales of the North American Indians, and Relational Communities
This article acknowledges that folklore studies has sometimes overlooked the imperatives of relational communities with the publication of tale collections. By privileging stories as texts and objectifying literacy as a stage of human development, some authors of tale collections have followed long-standing societal norms and ignored the primary imperative of maintaining relations to remain a community. Analyzing the introductions to Tales of the…

Rather out of the Center of Things: Contributions of Alta Fife to American Folklore Scholarship
While folklorists consider looking at the overlooked as a key contribution of the field, the history of folklore studies still holds many overlooked areas, issues, and people. The folklore work of Alta Fife offers an important complement and contrast to the contributions of her husband, Austin Fife, and other prominent folklorists of the mid-twentieth century. Although Austin only taught folklore courses at the end of his work as a French profess…
Toward an Assessment of Verbal Art as Performance: A Cross-Disciplinary Citation Study with Rhetorical Analysis
At the 20th anniversary of its publication in book form, Verbal Art as Performance merits reconsideration for its contribution to folklore studies and other scholarly fields. While many contemporary folklorists may clearly remember the intellectual and social milieu surrounding the production and reception of Verbal Art, the passage of time since then invites an examination of the diffusion of the text across scholarly disciplines and allows for …
