Drivers of agritourism participation and willingness to pay for local foods
This study examines the determinants of agritourism participation and willingness to pay (WTP) for locally produced food. Using survey data from 374 residents in Georgia, U.S.A., the study employed a binary logit model to identify participation drivers, structural equation modeling (SEM) to test attitudinal relationships, and a multinomial logit (MNL) model to profile WTP segments. Findings of the study suggest that environmental concern, health …
Hispanic border state emigration response to stricter immigration control
This study draws upon assertions that Arizona’s stringent state immigration law has created a hostile social environment for Hispanics due to the law’s unintended racial profiling consequences that have serious spillover effects affecting even documented immigrants and American-born citizens of Hispanic ethnicity. Recent evidence indicates the law’s serious repercussions on the mental and physical health conditions especially among the state’s Hi…
Growth is not enough: Solving the Global Food Security Crisis Requires Investments to Close Gaps
The escalating global hunger crisis, exacerbated by ongoing conflicts, economic shocks, and climate crises, demands comprehensive and effective solutions. Since limited research has explored the interplay between inequality and economic growth in relation to a country’s food insecurity prevalence, this study seeks to bridge this knowledge gap. Using country-level data from 113 countries in both pre- and post-pandemic periods and employing the see…
Driver's licences for undocumented immigrants and post‐mortem organ donation
This study examines the relationship between expanded access to driver's licences among undocumented immigrants and the number of post‐mortem organ donors, using difference‐in‐differences modelling and event study estimation techniques. Results suggest that the adoption of laws that grant driver's licences to undocumented immigrants effectively increased the population of licensed drivers by about 2.7%. These increments eventually led to subseque…
Loan packaging decisions for beginning African American and other socially disadvantaged farmers
This study presents evidence on the relative accommodation of credit requests made by minority start-up entrepreneurs in the U.S. farm sector. Loan packaging terms (amount, interest rate, and maturity) prescribed by lending officers of the Farm Service Agency, the government's lending arm to the farm sector, are analyzed and compared across racial/ethnic and gender groups of borrowers. The intention is to discern whether prescribed loan terms are…
