  • Converbs and adverbial clauses in Badaga, a South-Dravidian language

Christiane Pilot-Raichoor•CHAPTER•Clause linking and clause hierarchy•2010

This paper analyzes complex sentence constructions in Badaga, a Dravidian language spoken in Southern India. After identifying the strategies used to express clause dependency, mainly based on converbs, adjectival participles and a quotative element, it examines their use and distribution in different semantic functions: temporal, causal, purposive etc. A few sample cases of the simultaneous use of these strategies in complex sentences will be gi…

  • Another Nilgiri Language Treated in Depth

Kamil V Zvelebil, Paul Hockings et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of the American Oriental…•1997

  • A Badaga-English Dictionary

  • Sémantique actancielle et cas morphologiques en hindi et en badaga

    Annie Montaut, Christiane Pilot-Raichoor•ARTICLE•Langages•1994•Cited by: 1•References: 1

    A. Montaut & Ch. Pilot-Paichoor, Sémantique actancielle et cas morphologiques en hindi et en badaga In Indian languages, illustrated by Hindi-Urdu and Badaga (a Dravidian language) the correlation between semantic case and morphological coding is not straightforward. Other parameters (animacy, control, evidentiality...) -which may have areal typological relevance- also governs the choice between alternant syntactic patterns

  • Counsel from the Ancients

Anthony R Walker, Paul Hockings et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of American Folklore•1991
